Doesnt translate to running a club though. Dave Allen for instance.

Dave Allen had a tin-pot engineering company

It's a no brainer for me. Can't see it happening though. DC would probably want 150 million. Not a penny less. That's his MO.

I would not like him to be the owner of our club.

He happily had his staff on zero hour contracts resulting in them being paid below the minimum wage.

He tried to pitch Sports Direct as an ‘essential service’ during the Covid19 restrictions & then upped his prices while a large amount of people were either furloughed or panicking about the stability of their jobs.

He had ‘Wonga’ plastered all over the Newcastle shirts during the hey day of the pay day loans companies. Advertising a company that makes it easier for people to get further in debt.

He’s got no issues in selling Newcastle to a regime with one of the worst human rights records in the world.

No doubt plenty of people will tell me I’m naive & that if we want to compete we’d be better off with Ashley.

If the price of being good at football is lining the pockets of that guy or being complicit in the way he treats people then I’d rather not bother.

At least these companies existed, hence there was actual money behind it.

Unfortunately, money talks in today’s game

Yes, he got them relegated from the Premier League... but you have to be in the Premier League to get relegated from it.

He knows exactly who to appoint to not only get promoted at the first attempt, but to dominate the league each time and go up as Champions.

There are numerous clubs that have been relegated with the advantage of parachute payments and not go up at the first attempt in recent years.

West Brom, Boro, Stoke, Huddersfield, Fulham, Sunderland and QPR all off the top of my head. I’m sure there are more over the last 7-8 seasons.

Newcastle should never have been in relegation trouble, they weren't for 14 seasons before he got involved.

He is a businessman and would likely do a better job of managing the club finances.

What we want is success on the field.

In the 14 seasons prior to Ashley becoming involved at Newcastle they finished in the top 6 of the Premier League 7 times with a lowest position of 14th.

In the 13 seasons since he took over they have finished in the top 6 once and have been relegated twice.

Its hard to know if youre making a case for or against him with that

Sounds feckin amazing compared to what weve got

It depends what your starting position is. Compared to where they were before he got involved, Newcastle got significantly worse.

I can see him suited to Leeds.

I thought he was a cockney, turns out he was born in Walsall and went to school in Slough. Silly Geordies

He is a cheeky monkey, but probably knows more about running a club than DC.

Walsall to Slough thats a long bike ride if you have forgotten your dinner money!

If this story is true. That’s the 2 choices we have. Isn’t it?

Haven’t heard of anyone else who is interested.

In all honesty , if I was Ashley and wanted to do what there suggesting buy a steady EFL club with established fan base I think I’d go for Portsmouth

Always be careful what you wish for , maybe an old saying but tends to be correct. I suspect Ashley is not the answer were looking for.

Knows how to appoint someone who can get us promoted on the biggest budget in the league with the remains of a Premier League squad.

When has he appointed anyone to build a squad for promotion on a relatively smaller budget?

I’m confused about what your issue with Ashley would be. It seems you are saying he wouldn’t be a suitable owner for us as he has no experience owning a football club with our amount of debt in the championship? Thats a very specific type of owner you are looking for?
