Eye watering salaries in leaked figures

Recommended Posts

Figures that clubs - including SWFC - have reported to EFL for 2019-20 season that have been leaked to Daily Mail

Bearing in mind these are averages it's pretty frightening across all leagues

not really a surprise and this is why clubs are getting in financial difficulty, spending beyond their means to try and get to the money league.

Not really that informative though no clubs, no players no details for all we know it is all made up.

If they have reported in this way, then the information most likely has not been obtained from a legal source.

Fans can't moan about what their clubs spend if they have Sky TV and keep going to the matches.

Why not?

Doesn't include last seasons top 6 I dont think. So results are probably almost double that.

It's not the most definitive report is it. The player average is the 'average salary of the highest earners'. How is this average reached, is it the average of the highest earner at each of the 18 clubs for which data is held? Who knows.

Also, a quarter of all clubs in the Championship are missing from this report, data which could significantly impact the results and we don't know who the 6 clubs are.

It is headline stuff that grabs attention, as it is intended to do, but take us for example, I'm sure most of our fans are aware that our highest paid players get in the region of, and probably above £29K a week.

The article says the figures are from this season, doesn't say who the 6 clubs that didn't respond are but lists some of the clubs in the division as 'big hitters'.

Wonder which player is on 68 grand a week?

It says 'southern club' so I'd guess at a Fulham player, seeing as they have parachute payments...Mitrovic or Knockeart?

Was thinking Mitrovic - international striker for a decent nation who was signed as a Premier League player for over £20M having previously played in the PL for Newcastle. Basically he is on a PL wage that a club like Fulham can continue to pay thanks to the advantages of PL TV money and parachute payments.

L1 is probably where the salaries in football should be, L2 is almost underpaid

It thought it would be Rooney for highest player but Derby are not a southern club. So maybe Derby were one of the teams to not respond.

Also thought they had some kind of 'creative accounting' regarding his salary which means it might be listed as part-player, part-coaching staff and also rumoured to be funded by one of their sponsors in some way?

I'm more surprised about how low the head of finance salary is, no wonder they are all screwed 😁

Not entirely true. Clubs are getting into difficulty because of the rules in some cases. Our own club is in difficulties entirely because of the EFL rules. If we were any other kind of business the owner would be able to invest whatever he likes. The restriction of the amount that an owner can lose per season is at the core of our problems. Our owner has plenty of money, for now at least, to cover any losses. We are not looking at administration or any business ending issues.

Mitrovic would have been my guess too, especially knowing Fulham are struggling with FFP.

Like us, only themselves to blame really.
