Guest
I was right behind the goal when this happened - the atmosphere at St James had been amazing alll afternoon and the way they went quiet was brilliant
BIG D
Behind the net that day. I went on the exec coach thanks to my Uncle and I remember it pulling up right next to the turnstiles.

Nut
What a great day that was. Loved watching that side. You were always proud of them even when they lost, which wasnt very often. Its not fashionable to like direct football but when it's successful and played like that it's fantastic.
marconi
I was also behind the goal that day. Memories of the day were being kept behind for ages after the match, and having to walk down past their Kop where they were still gathered. A police escort down to Manors Railay station, and the ginger haired kid getting hit by a wooden cable drum thrown from a building. I went for a day trip recently to Newcastle and decided to have a walk to the ground for old times sake. The whole ground and surrounding area had changed beyond recognition.

Ian Fleming
I can remember walking back to the coaches after the game and the Geordies were selling Keegan burgers. Christ knows what was in them!
SimonJ
Me and @Flat Owl were there - went on inter city owl coaches - police held us for ages at Washington services before the game - sure we got in late as a result, but that goal by shelts made it all worth while.... Remember that. Using a beer can as a ball in a 200 a side game of football with the coppers bikes as goals (while they were sat on them).

lanzaroteowl
Went on the wino Express. Last coach in, first coach out. Police used us as a decoy and sent us into the town center where all the Geordies followed. Sent all the other coaches the other way. Cue mayhem, with some of the lads on the roof of the coach having seats, bottles and Snap passed up to them to rain down on the massed ranks of Geordies surrounding us. I think Plod thought we would get a hiding, no such luck.

Couldn't agree more mate. That 80s era even pips the early 90s for me. I loved that Howard Wilkinson side - still do. Had a brilliant time following them all over the country. Thousands of us. Great, great times.
