We should have broke the bank to keep Michael Hector

Who did we break the bank for who was as good as him and at the peak of his career age-wise? I’m sure if we could have got him we would have.

Pretty much everyone of the Premier league squad signed after big Ron left. De Bilde, Sibon, Hinchcliffe, Jonk, Donnelly, O'Donnell

Better than him?

Really?

He's solid. He's strong, fast, and reads the game amazingly well

Yea. He's a good championship defender. Wouldn't class him as best in the league. At that price and the Implications not worth the risk to our long term finances

When I chat with Chelsea fans, most of them scoff at those figures, and suggest that he probably went for about £3m Even that though, I would suggest, was beyond us. Nobody wanted him here more than me, and he was probably our best signing for many a year. Consistently good performances, week after week, and excellent leadership qualities Exactly what the Fulham fans are saying now

Watched him in a few Fulham game's this season he was outstanding an absolute rock then watched our defence what a loss, talk about the rights and wrongs of finances all you want but we wouldn't have conceded the amount of goals as we have if he was still here.

We all wanned Hec back, but was never gonna happen with the sums involved.

Think early on, Iorfa’s form softened the blow somewhat, until like everyone else’s, it fell off a cliff edge How so many players can suddenly, and dramatically, lose form, all at the same time, beggars belief. Who knows whether whatever caused it, wouldn’t have had the same effect on Michael Hector, were he here

Exactly. Saying we'd be far better with him now is a moot point. Our squad switched off at Christmas. Hector would probably be one of those too, because the issues here infect the whole group. We were shipping goals even with Hector. His form - like many - improved once Jos was ousted.

Donnelly and O'Donnell, got loads of games out of those two.....

Exactly and broke the bank wage wise to get them both. On long contracts. Never know how a move will turn out, so to be so reckless, when we have such stark warnings in our recent past is stupid bordering on insane

£5 million pounds is nothing for a defender of his quality

27 is no age either

Was definitely worth every penny if we are serious about challenging for promotion

Not a great idea overspending with EFL already on our case. The days of £5 million deals are not on the agenda. Hence the summer deals we did.

Have to agree as the first half of last season when the team was struggling Hector was no better than the rest. He had an excellent second half but 5 million for a player in the last year of his contract when money is tight would have been madness.

Don't think it should ever be a case of one vs the other

If we truly really genuinely want to compete we should be securing the best possible available players

So ideally you'd have Hector AND Iorfa in the same starting lineup

Only if we can afford them.

We are in the mess we are in because of that kind of thinking.

Maybe we should have been looking at him earlier in his career when we were throwing money about like confetti for over aged, one season wonders of a few years ago.

How times change. Up until Christmas everyone was saying how having Borner on a free was much better business which it clearly was. Yes we’ve been shocking at the back since then, however i think everyone knows that both borner and iorfa are more than capable of returning to the form they showed first half of the season.

I don’t think spending such a sum would have solved the underlying issues within the team. It’s an approach we have taken for far too long now and has put us in the peril we still face with the EFL
