We should have broke the bank to keep Michael Hector

£5m for a player who is 27 is the sort of business I’m glad we are no longer conducting.

Good player but wasn’t worth anywhere near that amount of money with 12 months left on his deal.

It was an undisclosed fee, how do you know it was 5 mil?

Sheffield Star.

“The Blues were said to want £5 million for Hector, who recently entered the final year of his contract with the club for whom he has never played a competitive fixture”

The Sun reckons it was £8m.

“CHELSEA defender Michael Hector has joined Fulham with an £8million deal to be officially completed in January.“

£5 million pounds is nothing for a defender of his quality

27 is no age either

Was definitely worth every penny if we are serious about challenging for promotion

No we shouldn't. We broke the bank before for players better then him and missed the big time cos of it, and then are back in a similar position now.

Better than him?

Really?

He's solid. He's strong, fast, and reads the game amazingly well

Signed in January, so technically 6 months left on his contract. Without the successful loan with us he would have been £400k isj

I really like him but the 8 million quotes were too much for a good player but who was prone to silly mistakes.

How old is Iorfa? Makes hector look slow.... will only get better and c£260k

Don't think it should ever be a case of one vs the other

If we truly really genuinely want to compete we should be securing the best possible available players

So ideally you'd have Hector AND Iorfa in the same starting lineup

£5m to us is definitely not “nothing”. It’s a huge sum. Especially when he had 12 months left on his contract.

Signing players at 27 for big money is the reason we have FFP issues. Because you aren’t going to get that money back. So for a club that needs to generate profits signing players like Hector at £5m is not “good business”. Signing players like Iorfa for a few hundred thousands at 23 years old is the better business for us.

Absolutely . Spending big money on ageing players has created  massive debts.

This x 1000.

We need to cut our cloth accordingly.

Only parachute clubs should be spending that sort of money.

The rest of us have to try and pick up bargains and frees.

Which is the right way to go for us.

There is the key.

At the start of this season, were we serious about promotion.  Perhaps until SB left there was hope, but I saw this season as hope rather than plan.
