It certainly does not benefit the government and other tax payers if the tax that the players pay on their salaries which contributes to the NHS cost is simply left in the pockets of say the Glasers. Think it is morally wrong at moment of national crisis for Premier League clubs to be paying players £150k per week when some are laying off non playing staff on low wages & asking the taxpayer to pick up the bill. It is but unfortunately player power is a factor and their rights will be better protected. Clubs as a whole are trying to come to an agreement on this with involvement from the PFA but when the talks collectively involve all Premier League and EFL clubs, the financial position of various clubs will differ significantly. Canal have refused to pay their next instalment of tv right money which presumably hits the clubs in the pocket and either the club takes the hit or pass it on to the players. The clubs taking the furlough is certainly unsavoury whatever the players do- I made the point in the other thread that was "praising" Chansiri but I'm not sure how just reducing the players wages for the benefit of millionaire owners is a moral triumph.
