Whilst I applaud the club for ensuring staff get 100% of their salaries, why is a football club who pays footballers millions of pines having to go scrounging to the Government for tax players money to pay ticket sellers, cleaners, and office staff etc.?

This outgoing must be peanuts compared to the other costs within the club, and the Chairman has already said the millions fans pay to go through the turnstiles doesn’t even touch the sides with regards to expenditures.

At times like this, I feel the club should be helping the community and giving something back, not penny pinching and going to the Government for handouts.

Doesn’t sit well with me. The Government furlough fund should be for those in need, not for multi-million pound football clubs to dip into.

I find it even more vile that Premier League clubs are also doing this. Some not even making up the 20%!! Shameful.

As the COVID-19 crisis continues to grip the nation and the world, Sheffield Wednesday can confirm revised internal measures effective from 1 April 2020.

In the best interests of all staff and to help safeguard the future of the club, a significant number of employees are being furloughed as part of the government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.

Remaining staff are working from home, with the main stadium and training ground locked down.

The job retention scheme guarantees 80% of regular renumeration up to £2,500 per month but SWFC chairman Dejphon Chansiri has pledged all furloughed members of staff will continue to receive full salary.

The landscape will be reviewed at the end of April as we digest fresh information on an almost daily basis in this fast-paced environment.

On the playing side, Premier League and EFL clubs are currently in talks with the PFA to how best agree a conciliatory solution regarding potential pay deferral.

Sheffield Wednesday stay committed to assisting our community in any achievable way during these unprecedented times. Our COVID-19 appeal, launched last week to raise much-needed money for essential local charities, remains open and all donations, however big or small, are gratefully accepted.

The fund currently stands at an impressive £22,540 – CLICK HERE for more information and how to donate.

While the COVID-19 pandemic continues, we can only reiterate the vital messages shared around the globe – stay at home and only leave when necessary, exercise within guided parameters, wash your hands thoroughly, maintain social distancing and above all, please stay safe.

We hope to see you all again soon.

Would have been appropriate to make a statement about Joe Ashton-maybe he has and I've missed it
