Unfortunately other clubs including Man Utd recognised that sometimes difficult players were worth it as they were vital and in some ways bigger than the club in the immediate term. We took the old boys club approach and ostracised our best players whilst papering over the issue of replacing a previously good team with a load of average players

Thats the difference .. as well as having chairman with differing attitudes and final goals ..
