lanzaroteowl
As there is no football to talk about and to wind 'Geoffrey' up. Whilst keeping his more owlstalk readers going. Which match put the wind up you most? Mine was probably West Ham away in the early '80s outside the Boleyn pub. Total carnage! with those pesky Eastenders coming from all angles. Followed by the Man Ure away 'Dambusters' game. 1

sheriwozgod
Also West Ham away in the 80,s , may have been the same day but deffo a different pub. They were waiting for us as we left the pub about 30 of them , about 10 of us....................thankfully i was in my early 20,s and like $hit off a shovel .....they couldnt catch me. The fighting was everywhere, out of the 10 of us in the minivan i think only 3 or 4 actually got in to see the game. Grimsby on boxing day mid 80,s also put the wind up me, but for a different reason.............it was a horrendous crush before the wooden gates were opened. Lombardo
Went all the way down to Gillingham, the first game after Boxingday massacre, to find out it had been postponed due to frozen pitch. On the way back the coach stopped at Coventry to take in their match and we were escorted in the Boro "away" end....had a few eyebrows raised at us, amongst other things... alanharper
Villa at home a couple of years ago. We've always had dodgy refs but that Swarbrick game was something else, it's the one time I genuinely think the ref was bent (apart from every time we had George Courtney obvs). I wouldn't even be surprised if he'd completely ignored his watch when it looked like we'd put one over the line (not sure if third parties also get the goal notification or literally just the referee). Striggy
For me personally it was an away cup game v Man City at Main Road circa 1981. We lost 2-1 and I think and Curran scored. Had gone in my new company car with 3 mates and parked somewhere in Coronation Street land. Walking back after the game got set upon by a City gang asking where our car was parked? I didn't want to lead them to the car for fear of damage to the new car, so walked round for ages getting beaten half to death instead. Sure the other 3 have forgiven me by now. 2 "nobody told me there would be days like these!"

If the Wednesday fans hadn’t taunted the West Ham fans so much on the way to the ground, at the ground, and on the way back to the station I reckon it would have been total carnage. The bravado put just enough doubt in their mind for them to wait until the last few of our lot were queuing at the tube stop. Never been more happy to lose a game. Sanchez_Jenks
Coventry away about ten years ago I'm guessing when we had two men sent off in the first half but seemed to still be the better team. We had to endure Robert Page pointing at the big scoreboard too when we went behind. Would have to watch again to see how justified the red cards were but I remember us all being livid with a sense of injustice.

Not sure if it was that game but was around that time where we parked up in crappy street near ground and a couple of minutes later these kids said “look after you car mister”. I said “ok, which one is mine then?” Got away with that one. BTW the fighting queuing up to get in, next to each other, was non stop.

There was a Chelsea away game just before that was a bit tricky too. Also remember a particular nasty trip to Portmouth getting run all over trying to get to the coach.
