BREAKING: Football suspension extended to at least 30 April

Recommended Posts

Elite football in England will be suspended until at least 30 April.

In a joint statement, the FA, Premier League, EFL and women's professional game said it was "committed to finding ways of resuming that 2019-20 football season as soon as it is safe and possible to do so."

Under normal rules, the season would end no later than 1 June; however, the FA has decided to extend this period indefinitely.

The FA, Premier League, EFL and women’s professional game, together with the PFA and LMA, understand we are in unprecedented times and our thoughts are with everyone affected by COVID-19.

We are united in our commitment to finding ways of resuming the 2019/20 football season and ensuring all domestic and European club league and cup matches are played as soon as it is safe and possible to do so.

We have collectively supported UEFA in postponing EURO 2020 to create space in the calendar to ensure domestic and European club league and cup matches have an increased opportunity to be played and, in doing so, maintain the integrity of each competition.

The FA’s Rules and Regulations state that "the season shall terminate not later than the 1 June" and "each competition shall, within the limit laid down by The FA, determine the length of its own playing season".

However, The FA’s Board has agreed for this limit to be extended indefinitely for the 2019/20 season in relation to Professional Football.

Additionally, we have collectively agreed that the professional game in England will be further postponed until no earlier than 30 April.

The progress of COVID-19 remains unclear and we can reassure everyone the health and welfare of players, staff and supporters are our priority. We will continue to follow Government advice and work collaboratively to keep the situation under review and explore all options available to find ways of resuming the season when the conditions allow.

We would all like to re-emphasise that our thoughts are with everyone affected by COVID-19.

Just an idea I had earlier.

Why not finish the season off in September and scratch next season.

It will give the clubs/country/league chance to get their house in order.

But i'm sure the accountants would argue against it.

Can’t see how all league fixtures and cup competitions can be completed without a summer extension

How many players contracts finish 1st June?

Think it will be scrapped.  They will have a time frame to complete the season by and we will go way past that.

So season to be extended indefinitely but no indication as to whether players contracts ending in June will be automatically extended.

A reyt can 'o worms innit.

Just scrap this season (sorry Liverpool and pigs:rolleyes:) and start anew as and when the virus is under control.

Yea, always said we would be better off playing our football in the summer.

Just think, watching your team on a summer afternoon or evening, whilst dressed in T-shirt and shorts instead of all togged up

in balaclavas and scarves.

Bring it on.🦉

Like the Olympic organisers, why do they persist with this blatant nonsense.  The virus in Italy hasn't even peaked yet and we're about a month behind, there is zero chance of the remaining games being played here.  Behind closed doors still requires medics, refs, officials, press, camera crews, admin staff, cleaners, ancillary staff AND TEAMS travelling from all over the place. it's simply not going to be allowed. Cancel the season, start again (hopefully) in September as we were in August 2019.
