EFL clubs vote to finish the season off

They'll have to cancel next season for this to happen.   Not a chance of this happening.

No they wouldn’t?

Next season isn’t starting in August. It’s likely going to start later whilst this season will be compacted as much as possible

From a purely selfish perspective I hope the season isn't finished and I pray to God if we are getting a points deduction then please let it be this season.

If we start next season on minus points or dock them later in the season it's just going to write next season off.

It isn't going to go away so just get it done.

Just heard on the wireless that all 24 Championship teams voted in favour of resuming & finishing the season.

Whoever was representing us can't have watched us much in the last 3 months! :1276983839_MonkHome:

You do know there's a generation of younger people on here who will have no idea what you are talking about

The only shock about this is how some posters didn’t expect clubs to reject the idea of an abandoning the season.  The integrity of the game needs this season to finish even if it affects how next season is organised. Again, just my opinion tho

TBH it does not matter what Champ clubs decide. If PL call the season void then no room for 3 to go up. This is nothing more than Champ clubs saying look at me and some may even be thinking of any potential positioning for legal action against PL as anyone of 15 clubs could argue they were denied a chance of promotion if a season is void.

But it is a top down league, if no relegation no promotion.

No surprise they're planning to go for it. Fixtures starting on the 2nd May for example, would conclude season on 30th May in our division, playing Sat / Weds.

Now that all June is free, there's even more scope for the authorities to press ahead. Moving the Euros cleared the way.

Plans have to be made, as daft as it seems, because life will still go on later in the year.

Deluded if they think it's possible to complete this season. Too many issues and not enough time to resolve them and to fit a rescheduled calendar in, along with player contracts; transfer window, pre-season and next season. The virus issues will last longer than the summer and into next year. When is next season supposed to start, is it worth putting on hold future seasons just for the good of a few teams? Health and life is far more important, tough luck the teams that will miss out on honours and promotion but past seasons were cancelled and put on hold for the war and teams have been banned or missed out on things due to war, conflicts and European competition bans before. The season is over, get over it. It's just football. Go again next season whenever sport resumes in the future.

Apparently the EFL have decided not to give us a points deduction, but felt a more severe punishment was needed, and gave decided to make us play our remaining games.

That just punishes the fans,

although the club will save a fortune on players win bonuses.

just cannot see this happening, it could be months before teams can get together. Players will be out of contract, so will new players be allowed to play `this season' . I suspect if they do play it will behind closed doors. Also that means no closed season or a delayed new season or shortened to play another club once. (Who decides home or away)

Best to scrap season and start again next season- this still may happen if it drags on

Will mean we then start on a minus points but wont get relegated

Integrity? Surely health and lives are more important? If all League teams can't fulfil their fixtures within a League season, it renders the season void. Why change rules for the good of a few teams? What if it goes on into next year or longer? We still finish the season, when clubs squads will be vastly different. Why put on hold future competitions just for the good of a few teams to complete this season, which clubs can't fulfil due to unforseen circumstances that are far wider reaching and serious than sport.

To answer some of your questions

yes, a big part of sport is having integrity.

yes, the lives of people is more important than sport, hence football are saying they hope they can complete the season when things may have improved for people , rather than make a decision to abandon it now.  My guess would be they will aim to play matches in May to early July time, potentially behind closed doors if necessary.

Its not “for the good of a few teams” as you like to repeat saying. This season is 80% completed and in every league about 8-10 teams are going for Europe or promotion, which they will feel they can’t guarantee will happen to them in the next seasons to come, so they are voting to keep this season alive.
