BREAKING: All games suspended until 3 April "at the earliest" [Update: full EFL statement in OP]

Recommended Posts

Police will be able to detain infected people and schools could be forced to stay open under a package of powers being announced next week to tackle the coronavirus pandemic.

Emergency laws to help to limit the spread of the virus will be introduced after the number of people infected in Britain rose by 200 in 24 hours to 798.

The measures, seen by The Times, will also let councils lower standards in care homes to deal with staff shortages.

The legislation, which ministers intend to push through parliament in two weeks, will equip the government to deal with the disease.

Ministers believe that the virus will infect the majority of the population, and the laws will stay in place for two years.

The government will be given the power to halt “any vehicle, train, vessel or aircraft”.

Ministers will be able to close ports if there are “insufficient resources” to retain border security through customs and immigration officers falling sick.

There are further measures to speed up cremations and burials. “In a reasonable worst-case scenario the death management industry will be rapidly overwhelmed,” the government said in a draft.

“There is a significant gap in body storage requirements to ensure we are prepared for the reasonable worst-case scenario.”

Next week Boris Johnson will follow Scotland and Ireland by banning gatherings of more than 500 people, including football matches, concerts and festivals.

As mentioned previously, I’ve already calculated the number of deaths at just over half a million. That’s just the UK. And that’s just for the current strain of the virus, which may mutate as they often do.

UK Population 66,500,000.

80% infection rate.

1% death rate.

Death is the business to be in over the next few years. Forget burials and gatherings for funerals. My guess is cremations only on a conveyor belt basis.

Not understanding why people aren’t getting this, but fully understanding why this site now needs to evolve to talk about more important things than football.

The world has radically changed overnight. This site will have an increasing role to play in maintaining spirits, a feeling of togetherness, providing support, and encouraging people to help others out. The same applies to all other online communities.

Just heard on the radio that the initial feeling as that the season will be cancelled and reset next August - should it be safe to do so

This would be perfect

One of my concerns regarding no football is we are going to start up the tardis which is jammed in the early 90s

How long before we get the Threads

How much would Hirst be worth today?

How good was Chris Waddle?

Was Nillson the best ever full back ?

Let's do the time warp yeeeah

You do realise you can start threads on whatever you want to talk about right?

The problem is Liverpool could still be caught

So if that's the case then teams need to be relegated and European places awarded on current league positions, however that depends on the EFL doing the same, you cant relegate teams if no one knows who to promote

Bet if season cancelled some clubs would look into taking legal action if denied promotion or a European place.

Maybe we should retrospectively sue LFC in that case then, for when their actions at Heysel cost us our European place.

I guess the counter argument might be that the only 100% forgone conclusion that can be drawn in any of the four divisions is that the title would have been won by Liverpool. I doubt there is a manager, coach or chairman in any of the leagues that would dispute it.

Radio presenters, TV actors, cameramen, news readers etc could all get coronavirus
