All sport will be postponed by the end of the month.

This isn't going away.

It takes 5-14 days to even start showing symptoms. So many people will have it already without knowing and it will be spreading.

Just like Italy. The country will have to shut down.

We are not special, there is no logical reason for it to not be exactly the same here as it is in Italy.

Flights from Italy had been pouring into the country for weeks. Those thousands of people then bomb burst to all corners of the country.

You can't stop it spreading unfortunately.

Exactly, even if most people aren't terribly affected, there's still a huge at-risk population. Which is why containment and discipline is important, but it's also important that people don't go mad. Although it's difficult to find such balance.

It's because of the media whipping up a frenzy, that some people are panic buying when there is no need to at all.

All ‘health experts’ interviewed today on news channels have mentioned that it’s better to avoid large gatherings of people... I wonder how many people (even on here) are considering not attending on Saturday due to this.

I'll be there (if allowed).... Can't wait:duntmatter:

The over reaction is the way people are perceiving the problem. What it comes down to is understanding that we should do what we can to prevent emergency services from becoming overwhelmed. That means minimizing the spread of a virus, even though it presents no long-term determent to the vast majority of us. The messaging is "ensure you don't spread it", as opposed to "ensure you don't get infected".

In terms of public awareness, for people to take things seriously, it sort of needs to be extreme. Without extreme messaging, people aren't going to respond.

Scotland don’t want groups of over 500 people - part of the reason being to not have the emergency services spend time on football matches etc, when they could be elsewhere.

Don’t think the Scottish league have spoken yet though.

Gatherings of over 500. More likely to effect the annual Iron Brew convention rather than football matches then.

I think it's odds on it's worse than they say...

The government...not just our own have one aim, to keep the economy strong and stable..

Yet they are now making that a secondary consideration. Closing events, paying sick pay, strain on the nhs etc cost a lot ££.

They wouldn't be doing that unless they were seriously worried, they will have taken advice from health officials, scientists etc.

Rather than overreaction, some experts say we have acted to slowly.

Remains to be seen who is right..but where health is concerned always better to be safe than sorry.
