If we played that way in the league, we'd be relegated before Christmas. Playing like that only makes sense in the Cup, where you might somehow manage to take it to penalties. Wigan beat West Brom on the Weekend does that mean Wigan are now the best team in the league? Where did he imply they were ? The commentators were taking the p s out of us tonight at the end Ok we worked hard but dont I here players saying they give 100% every game ? As a poster has said, lower league teams at least have a go but we are delighted not to have been thrashed We really are steeped in a happy loser mentality
Luke
It's not the first time and I won't be the last time this sorry excuse of a team won't get a shot on target People will use the man City excuse Our midfield is useless, regardless of opponents I'd be amazed if any of our midfield duos in the last 3 years could hold their own in league 1 It's pathetic
pat blondeau
It wasn’t as bad as I was expecting but one shot on goal with none on target and 20% possession at home is pretty poor. I could have played in goal for City tonight. There were large sections of the game when instead of pressing the ball we just sat in. They should have put a few more away, didn’t feel like they ever got out of second gear. Do we expect much more when lads like Pelupessy and da Cruz are playing 90 minutes against one of the best teams in world football?

Errol Flashman
Before the game folks are worried about double figures being put past us live on telly infront of a watching nation. We're a bang average Championship side in an absolutley dreadful run of form and making calamitous mistakes every week and we're playing against one of the best side on the globe with £500m worth of talent on the pitch. We keep it to 1-0 Not good enough. Fckin hell. 2 1 2 Just a bloke. Being dragged along in a world that moves too quick for it's own good.

Even at 1-0 down we’ve not even gone for it for 10 minutes Was our game plan to even keep in it to the final minute? Because we can’t even keep any composure to get the ball up front Dreadful Real dire stuff. Would have preferred a 6-0 tonking if we ventured out past mid a bit more . It's the Fiddle Cup against FC Moneybags. Who cares? Show some verve. Edited March 5, 2020 by Socialist_Owl

Jim
I know it was City but let’s be honest this containment style of football has been a staple diet of Monk’s time here and in the championship since Christmas, we’ve even struggled to do that. The OP is making a fair point with regards to getting value for money with the ticketing prices and with the lack of home goals for us this season we’re obviously not but opinions on here of late are as erratic as Peter Snow’s election night swingometer. Gundogan replaced Rodri and Jesus replaced Angelino just after the hour mark. Oxford had 18 shots on goal in the 90 minutes. I'd presume that with the quality they were facing they were also tired. So what's our excuse? Man City went one up after 20 minutes, therefore Oxford had to open up when they were less tired. Oxford also score for fun at home in 'normal' games whereas we struggle to create chances against Hull, Cardiff, Reading, etc. We're not going to treat Man City apart. We didn’t concede 4 - but they STILL managed a goal in last ten. Zero excuses for tonight - feel sorry for all those that paid money to watch us defend for 90 minutes. It’s a game we were never gonna win, just have a bloody go for 5 minutes Newport played Man City "on their own terms" on a pitch that disrupted City's normal style and played into the hands of a bustling lower League side. The pitch was a leveller. The pitch didn't level the game last night so we were shown up to be the team we are, against the team Man City are. We still don’t even pull away and push some men up? Why? We had no composure, no outball, no threat at all from inplay or dead ball situations - what made us think we could have one chance? Pathetic let me help you out here. our team was built for promotion 4/5 years ago, with players in their pomp THEN, they are now over the hill. we are losing league games in the last 10 minutes as often as not, due to the fact we can't go for 90 + on a regular basis, as in 2 games per week, or 3 in 8 days. our poor squad allows us little choice replacement wise, especially in attacking options. when you set off for the game tonight what final score were you expecting? how many new ar$eholes did you expect us to rip them? this 'poor and spent' squad of ours has bigger fish to fry, there may well be far more important games to come than a cup game in a cup we couldn't hope to win. alanharper
In their last 2 games against City, including the FA Cup Final which was the game of their lives, Watford (an established PL side who finished 11th last season) managed a combined total of 16 goal attempts. Lost 6-0 and 8-0.
