Announcers just destroyed Joey P

It’s widely reported we signed Van Aken after scouting 200 centre halves

We must have scouted 2000 midfielders before signing JP

Its late a night, I can’t be arsed typing thousands of zeros to continue to get da Cruz into the gag

Nah, there's been many signings at the club that raise an eyebrow but it can be said with 99.999% certainty, Jos is responsible for Joey and Jos knew all about Joey and his capabilities before the signing.

Blimey.

You can Dawson hasn't played tonight.

do you think JP (or da Cruz) should be anywhere near the first team? A young kid offered far more than those two in circa 20 minutes than they did in 180 combined.  Ditto QPR away, Hunts other first team appearance.

not either players fault I hasten to add

nor because it’s Citeh tonight either .... in JPs case, he’s been incredibly poor pretty much throughout his time at SWFC

Weird how playing with ten men we kept such a good team quiet for so long. Almost as if there’s more to football than passing.

Let's get real.  If City were trying, we'd have been battered.  Stop the false flattery.  It was one sided and never in doubt, save for a 7 min stretch late on.

I'd expect him to have more than 1 touch every 10 mins playing central mid.  Regardless of the opposition.

Defeatist apologia.

Fair enough.

Having previously watched both Manchester City and Joey Pelupessy, I can't say I expected a great deal more than we saw.

Doesn’t look fully fit to me. I wonder if he is carrying some sort of knock. His pace over the first couple of yards has gone off, as has his jumping. His marking from set plays was scary as a result, only a lack of quality on balls from Man City stopped Aguero scoring more as Joey was miles away from him. Now we are talking about one of the all time great strikers and Joey P here. But Joey was finding it hard getting into the air or covering ground quickly .

if he is carrying a knock then I assume that is why he is just busying himself screening and not doing a lot else.

so what is it most of us are missing that makes JP worth persisting with?

I never said he was worth persisting with did I? He played to his level, nothing more and nothing less against vastly superior players. It’s hard to criticise a player that most say is League One standard for not standing out as a shining star in a game vs the champions of England.

With the exception of Bannan and Murphy (who only marginally played better) he was about the same standard as Lee, Fessi, Da Cruz who are all arguably a higher calibre of player, likely on higher wages too.

I forgot aguero was on the pitch till he scored

How could you?

The BBC cameras were all on him, then Pep looking disappointed, then him, then Pep looking angry, half-time, then him, then Pep looking exasperated, then him scoring, then Pep nodding.

I don't doubt for a second they were trying, Pep was "furious" in his own ways on the side over his side's inability to break us down. Which makes the defeat a little worse, because this cup tie was there for the taking. We were never going to have much possession, but if you take your chances when you do have the ball, you don't need much possession to score a goal. Bravo and the City defense didn't impress me much; we just didn't have any creativity or will to challenge them on the offense.

I too forgot Aguero was on til he scored. They don't show the BBC coverage at the ground. I also thought Jesus was anonymous. Presumably he wasn't though.

it was the bit where you said there's more to football than passing I was referring to. Just wondered what qualities you'd spotted in JP's game?

Iorfa was very good at neutralising Jesus and Aguiero. Quick to close down and muscle off anything coming their way. I think Jesus maybe had a couple of chances and the ball was moved rather between the two Silva's and Concelo. Börner went a bit far out a few times, Lees too, but also helped closing them down and not giving Man City time on the ball to setup their play. Defensively we did a great job.

I agree. But we didn't attack them with overlapping full backs and centre half's, 2 wingers and 3 up top so it was embarrassing. Or so I'm told by the armchair experts on here.
