Fletcher and what could have been

Although we were playing well and creating chances before he came on, Fletcher had a massive impact on the game last night as he had the whole season up until His injury. If he'd stayed fit, and Luongo and Fox had been available more often as well, we'd be comfortably sitting in the play offs now despite the fact that we have only played well on a handful of occasions this season. So frustrating.

Its a shame after all the money invested that we are relying on a 33 year old striker but I knew as soon as he went down injured in the QPR game that he'd be a huge miss, did more in the first 5mins he was on than Wickham did all game last night.

To say Fletch had a long lay off and quite a bad injury he looks up to speed immediately.

He is a freak of nature really in Striker terms in that he seems to be improving with age.  As well as his ability he has become a proper leader on the pitch and credit to him.

Good to hear he wants to stay and what he has said about Monk and coupled with Bannans comments is this dispelling a few myths ?

It proves how much of a clearout we need, some players look like they want to be there others obviously don't.

He’s been a big miss up top but it’s our defence that’s hit poor form mainly since his injury. That clean sheet last night plus the return of Fox at the back and Fletcher up front is definitely something to build on till the end of the season. Get Luongo back fit and the smattering of new signings in Jan helping out and we will see what Monk is made of between now and the end of the season.

He has a touch of the Sheringham about him in that he’s a VERY intelligent footballer and therefore he reads the game extremely well.

Think we could get another season (maybe 2 at a push) out of him on sensible terms.

I am not against Fletcher being here next season but I hope that means the rest of the old guard are being moved on.
If Monk stays obviously Hutchinson will be moved on but out of Fletcher, FF, Lee and Nuihu think you can only offer contract to one of them at most.
If you think you are unlikely to get 30 games out of a player then sorry they are worth a contract.

Think his comments about Monk is him just being diplomatic, hardly going to slag a manager off when he is hoping to resign.

Agree and suppose thats why we need more quality cover but guess its not that easy, thought Wickham would play a big part but thats certainly not the case at present, bonus is FF and Lee coming into form and hopefully Lluongo back soon.

Fletcher was a breath of fresh air and made us a more threatening team overall. His general movement and energy - chasing balls down the channels; dropping into midfield for lay-offs then moving quickly again; and his defensive work is often underrated. Probably rightly so when he's your main goal threat who more often than not gets in the right place to score - as we so last night.

It was Fletcher, not Wickham who looked the PL loanee last night.

2 year contract on reduced terms of around £20k PW. We need to knock these wages down. He’s had a 4 year contract of £30k PW plus bonuses so he’s made his money.

Im sure Hutch, Joey, Winnall, Dave, will all be moved on in the summer. Fox will be offered a new deal on improved terms and it’s down to Lee and FF to fight for a contract but at the moment they would both be released as well.

I thought the same.

Hard not to find yourself comparing Fletcher and Wickham, and theres a chasm of a difference.

His current contract has predictably turned out to be an overspend ( and dented FF's ego) although this season fit at last he has been outstanding when fit
