It's Arial battles we are losing. That final goal yesterday was due to weak defending by Lees.

Jutkiewicz is very good in the air and it was a good ball in. Easy to blame Lees but Jutkiewicz won those type of balls all game .

The real issue was  the ball was out of play next to their corner flag in injury time and we let them get out and up the pitch far too easily.

They took a throw in to somebody completely unmarked who was then allowed to stroll up the pitch.

I'll have to disagree here oldish..he got the run on Lees and helped himself.

Lees looked like he'd just woken up after a doze..

He was still in his own half when he played a 50-yard ball that Lees failed to do enough of to at least not allow Jutkeiwicz to head it exactly where he wanted to. Palmer also clocked off a bit to allow Hogan to run past him and onto the knock down.

But none of that would have mattered if we had defended the throw in.

If you let people get balls into your box you are always liable to concede.

It is inevitable that balls will come into the box when you are playing a team like that, you have to expect it and minimise the impact, that's the job of the defenders. Look at Lees reaction when it ends up in the back of the net, he won't be looking for someone else to blame 70 yards away, he knows he should have done more.

Of course he is disappointed but all game they put balls into our box and we defended lots of them.
The whole idea is when they have a very good header of the ball you stop them coming in, and we could quite easily have stopped that one by defending the throw in.

Last two minutes you keep them as far away from our box as possible, we didn’t even try to.

I am pretty sure the manager will be pointing that out , he knows first hand that Jutkiewicz will win more of those than he loses against any defender in the league

Yes the plan would be to stop balls into the box but when you are away to a team that is losing and plays direct football it is inevitable they are going to try and hit the big target and you can't stop everything - their defender was over 60 yards away from our goal when he pumped it forward, Lees needs to hold position better or make sure it isn't a free header, he didn't do either. Borner and Palmer don't come out of it looking great either, Palmer allows Hogan to run after him and Borner isn't marking anyone and doesn't get into a position to cut anything out.

All of our defenders are playing poorly this year, apart from Fox.

easy answer is stop the players switching off on the 90 minute mark , you never know it could pay dividends ,

easier answer is for Murphy to put that fukin 1 on 1 away make it 4-2 game over, was a shyte finish, looked terrified,,

The Real issue is not that Lees didn’t win the header - players are allowed to get beaten in the air.

The real issue is that we allowed that ball to be contested in our box, rather than squeezing 10 yards further forward and making it something Dawson could hoover up, or that - if they win the first - a second ball doesn’t drop in the middle of the goal 10 yards out.

At least we tried something a bit different. I could see the logic behind the Pelupessy as a right wing back idea, get him to do the legwork on the wing and free up Murphy to offer an attacking threat - which he did throughout. He made good changes at half time too.

The goals we conceded weren’t really tactical, they were just down to the defenders having no confidence at all. A large part of that is on Monk’s head but purely in tactical terms I don’t think we did too much wrong yesterday.

Tom Lees has been great for us and what a bargain, but for me he should be top of the list of players we need to move on in the summer

I'd keep hold of Fletcher (if we can agree terms) and make him captain

Scottish International who's played in Europe and the Premier League, our most experienced player by a mile, & from what I hear he really looks after himself with his diet and gym, despite being 33 he is in his peak.

He's most experenced players in the squad by a mile and one all should look up to & inspire to be. He brings the best out of the likes of Bannan and our wide players will have a field day too. We just need to make sure we have someone else who can do his role for a plan b if he gets injured as him getting injured has been
