Yea, hindsight's a wonderful thing innit?

If mi aunt had a pair of boll*cks......... and all that.

Aye but foresight and forward thinking generally separates the well run clubs from the badly run clubs. We've been going backwards on and off the pitch ever since the failed play off campaigns.

Has his pick of the litter in terms of clubs chasing him.

Why on EARTH would he come here.

People are kidding themselves.

Yes, exactly, Peterborough are going well in League One at the minute and, if he helps them get promoted, his stock can only rise.

Why would he want to come to Hillsborough when there's still a real chance that we might be swapping divisions with Peterborough come the end of the season ?

It's a bit of a no brainier IMHO

watched Darragh MacAnthony's transfer window video on youtube, he talks quite transparent about the dealings at his club. Ivan Toney was obviously one of the names he was on about, basically he's got a lot of clubs after him and he said about strong interest from a club in the championship who are fighting for promotion with a similar model to them (Brentford) and also a team from the Prem who if relegated will buy him at the end of the season, sounded like Toney was keen to leave, Darragh has told him that he can leave at the end of the season if Peterborough don't get promoted.

SO we don't have a prayer of signing him.

Peterborough signed him from Newcastle for 650k after a series of solid, if unspectacular, loans. Maybe if we had any sort of long term planning - a manager in place for longer than six months, a DoF, recruitment team etc - we could look at taking a similar approach. The Iorfa signing was a good start but we should be doing more business like this.

Wash your mouth out!!! 30, crocked, and looking for a final payday is the way 'real' scouting is done.

It needs a change of emphasis from the club We had our own opportunity to develop our own player with similar attributes, in Lucas Joao Yes we made a tidy profit on him, but we might have got a lot more had we given him more game time. That’s the difference between us and teams like Peterborough and Brentford. At those clubs, they would never play a veteran player like Fletcher, and would have always played Joao. They try to develop the younger players, especially when they have a good basic skill set. Sure Fletcher is the more consistent player, and at the time, we were prioritising the now, over the future, but that’s what I mean about needing a different emphasis.

You only need to read a few of the Dawson vs Westwood threads to see why the fans expectations here just doesn’t allow for us to expedite development of raw talent by playing them through at the expense of older players.

Let’s say we bought this lad, as fanciful as that is, he starts and does well. We get giddy say he’s worth 35m and then bad run of form. There would be thread after thread demanding Fletchers return, grumbles in the crowd, we may even sing a song for fletch demanding he play.

I agree with you by the way, we need a change. But it appears a good chunk of our fans would rather us pay over the odds for fading stars with past stats to quote rather than the next big things with their stats in front of them.

Young up and coming players have no place at Hillsborough. Wednesday fans would rather watch the heroes of 2016 so they can say “we would have won if x/y/z was fit/able to run/wasn’t suspended etc.
