Summer clear out...but then what?

Recommended Posts

We need to plough some money into the scouting system, every other team seems to find gems from the lower leagues apart from us, we always pay premium prices for players who are generally on large wages, when did we last pick up a player from the lower leagues and make good money on them? That team we dislike across the city do this type of thing season in/out, scouring the lower leagues getting players on average wages that put in 100% for club and manager.

If we were any good at this we'd have a shortlist of players who will be out of contract and will have a process in place ready to go get them. Unfortunately based on our history we will inevitably leave it until the last minute and fill the gaps with loans and desperation signings.

Have a watch of the Monk unveiling press conference and see if DC strikes you as someone with any long or short term plan.

Reading between the lines from that press conference Bullen messed up his chance so Monk was appointed within 48 hours because he was available.

With DC in charge, nothing good will come to our club. I have given him time, patience and benefit of the doubt. However, 5 years in and it's absolutely clear that he is a disaster. Change the manager and players, fine but nothing will change.  A change of ownership is vital now because this guy will take us to league 2. I'm sure of it.

There is no way out for him financially right now but I share your opinion, I'm just not sure public protesting that you want him gone or slating him will do any good, could make things alot worse though

They're are plenty of players out there.

Our recruitment criteria should be based similar to Wilders from four years ago - a player with hunger and desire, able to pass and control a ball at speed; move into decent positions for your team mate to pass; press the opposition - particularly your counterpart; work hard for 90 mins and work for you teammates.

This won't cost us a fortune and I'm sure we've got a half dozen or so already at the club.

New philosophy; player and culture is needed and we should be able to move forward.

Thing is you need a manager with Wilders qualities . Pig he may be but he knows what he wants and produces on a shoe string and the f####r is now showing what he can do with cash while scaring the s##t out of the established teams . He has always done it and what's monk or most managers achieved with f##k all money .

Without knowing anything about the lower leagues, there are plenty of young players down there with hugely impressive stats. I'd rather a team of players 22-26 with hunger and something to prove than players that are fading stars such as Lees, Bannan, Westwood, Hutch and co.

I fully expect monk to be sacked by the March at the very latest with estate agent taking control to the summer

Fox,Lees, Hutchinson, nuhiu and Lee will get a new contract with the club learning nothing, rest will leave

We will then wait til August to sign past it players on frees, a few loans and maybe spend 500k on a player no ones heard of

Then problem Carlos will lead us into next season

Most fans on here will go on and on about how he got us to two playoffs

We will win a few games and people will say how we are guaranteed top 6, got some of best players in league blah blah, then it will explode like a wet fart and be back at square one

If by some miracle Monk is still here this task will be harder than the monumental task it is today.

Firstly this SHOULD all be going on now and have been going on since the summer but of course its not been. Were a mess at the top (chansiri) mess in the middle (Monk and management team) and a mess at the bottom. Add to that we'll have some sort of points deduction somewhere which will screw us either way (this season sends us down - next starts us on a minus) this task is not far on impossible to do in one window.

Its a long haul !

DCs problem was having no experience of how to run football club.

His first two management choices have put us in this mire.

One season wonder Carlos and clueless Jos have left us with no money and a very mixed squad.

He seems to have taken on some good advice since these two calamities.

A very good choice in Bruce, even waiting to get the right man. His choice of Monk, forced on him with little else to out there who would take the job. Was at least in the right ball park of what we needed. Not a punt on some foreign nobody.

Let's get this season over, hope to stay in the Championship if we get a points deduction.

And restart with money, and a clear out.

We need to completly change our transfer strategy next summer.

Lets see what is available in lower leagues. Players who proved themself there and are hungry for their chance at this level. Blades built promotion winning side like this, we signed Kieran Lee from the same pot.

There must be talented players at Premiership clubs sick and tired of waiting for their chance. Some of best Championship players were brought to their clubs this way. And that is from where we signed Whelan and Brunt.

Lets hope we have scouting network in place so we can exploit these markets. With many high earners gone in the summer, at least we should be in position to offer atractive contracts.

I totally agree, but does our owner and seemingly limited staff (no director of football etc) allow for this?

Ive seen nothing to suggest we’ve the right people at the club to make a success of this situation

Didn't we get a couple of guys in when Bruce was here? I've not heard that they have gone, They brought in Harris, Borner, Luongo, Odubajo and maybe Da Cruz. We didn't spend a fortune.

If they can do similar next season we could do OK. Windass probably wants to come here and Wigan might want rid, no idea if we can afford his wages.

Because all the contracts are due to expire doesn't mean we will let them all go . (hopefully we will shift most of them.

It would absolutely not be a relief if we get relegated.  It would be a nightmare for us.

In the summer, we will have the simple task of recruiting around 8-15 Championship (assuming we stay up) players, possibly with a transfer embargo imposed on us.

That’s a very tough ask.

we will still have Nuhui up front....laughable....

The way it should work is that you add half a dozen or so quality players who improve the team. Personally don’t think we should release all of the ‘fading stars’ because we simply won’t have the cash to do a summer 2015 style rebuild. We need to cut the wage bill so any one staying needs to be on reduced wages or they have to go.. so that’s probably FF gone as he’ll go to Italy or something.

If we release all of our better players in the name of change and to cut costs then we’ll be left with the garbage who are currently losing every game on the pitch and we’ll have too much to do to build a new winning team. At least the likes of Westwood, Lees, Hutchinson, Bannan, Fletcher are good players who might be past their best in some ways but have something to offer still as squad players

Would rather keep them over the ones that have never produced and don’t have it in them. We need evolution not revolution given financial constraints

he signed leon Clarke a player with none of the attributes you describe and yet turned him into something we never thought he could be …...whether monk could do that i'm not so sure .
