Starting the season on minus 12 will mean potential new signings may think twice about joining us and may want to fully explore other options before committing to the club. This’ll no doubt delay any incomings into the club. Thanks mate. I'm just looking at it from an historical point of view. Whenever do we get signings in place quickly? And as you say the current situation is not going to help us attract players any quicker? And before anyone replies the FDB signing is very much the exception rather than the rule? It's so true And so frustrating Jim Although.. when you look at other clubs they seem to be in the same position as us much of the time so maybe it's just a modern football thing 1 Owlstalk Shop

A lot of the players we have already are League One standard so I think we’d be able to compete. I think Sunderland thought the same!

TBH I remembered that as I was posting but because I presume of the embargo that we were under at the time they were announced sporadically? Even though I think they were training with us at the start of pre-season the announcements came after? I’m just saying that embargoes or not in the main under DC we have done the bulk of our business late on in windows and I don’t see this changing anytime soon? If we begin the season with a half-assembled team and start slowly, overturning the 12pt deficit would be very difficult. We need 60+ points and a good start or relegation would feel inevitable. Verily, and a bad start, coupled with the deduction, will make late recruitment even trickier

Unfortunately the only way we imo will get decent players to sign for us will be if we offer them big wages (something that has got us into this mess) or perhaps offering them a big bonus for staying up? WalthamOwl
Mentally strong players is what we need. A mixture of younger lads but we are going to need a bit of experience signed up as well. Massive massive job.
striker
Its crucial we do early business, allow the squad to bond in pre season and hit the ground running. My greatest frustration with DC is that we often leave it to the transfer deadline to bring players in. If players arent available, move on to other targets. More value in having a pre season with us IMO.
Beholder
Might have to go with young lads, loans and a few quality old pros like Brunt.

Agree, Domestically I think we’re going to be massively up against it Obviously the likes of Garner will be first choice, he’s now got Bournemouth and Swansea sniffing after him nothing more obvious than when we start chasing 4th or 5th options
WalthamOwl
Really would like to see us sign a new number one keeper. Someone that gives the defence the confidence that they need. I don’t feel either of the 2 young keepers do that.
owls-swfc
Does all this mean, we can now spend, spend, spend with a clean sheet next season?? Splash the cash..

Don’t know why but got a hunch we may see another Westwood revival, let’s face it he isn’t going to leave with the wages he’s on here

I’m coming around to that way of thinking Think they both have a chance of making it, and most of their shortcomings can be ironed out with experience Had we not had the points deduction, I’d have said, no let’s go with them again Now, with little margin for error, I think they should do their learning somewhere else, out on loan. An experienced keeper makes sense Edited August 2, 2020 by gurujuan

But, at some point have to persist with young players and give them game time to develop.

We need to use the experienced goalkeeper we have who is sat scratching his backside earning probably over 20k a week The club, management and player all need to sit in a room over the next 3 weeks and thrash out any differences so he is ready to be picked come the start of the season
