SiJ
Megson football was better than this. Nothing wrong with direct football if you do it properly. We play aimless football. 2

We won 6 and lost 9 of our first 20 League One games under Megson, including losing 3-0 to Tranmere, 4-2 to Plymouth, and 4-1 to Peterborough. It's only once he was able to shift a lot of the deadwood and bring his own players in during the summer transfer window that we saw a better mentality start to emerge. There might be a lesson for us in there somewhere... 1
Simaniac Owl
Love a Megson thread. HE wouldn’t have put up with the supposed big ego players. HE always had a plan. 1

What he did when he first cane in was work on the areas he could, attitude and character, he quickly sussed out who wasn't up for it, not unlike Monk. For those looking back through rose-tinted spectacles, it's also worth remembering that Megson's first half season saw us slide further down the table than we'd been when Irvine was sacked. He couldn't implement wholesale changes until the summer transfer window.

bigdan2003
I know Wednesday didn’t play particularly well, but sometimes it’s impossible to play good football with an opposition that sets up like Millwall - they really were hoof ball merchants. Probably was only ever going to be a dire game. It was more of a physical battle. The ref didn’t really help the game either.
