Reason we lost today

Recommended Posts

Was quite simple. They man marked Bannan. Holtby never left his side from minute one, and we simply didn’t have a clue on how to react to it.

Blackburn are the first team to fathom us out. Mark Bannan, and we stop functioning. We are the biggest one trick pony side in history.

I’d also throw in that ineffectiveness of our wide players, the fact that Winnall can’t play that lone striker role and every time the bell went forward to him it came straight back and I’d also say the performances from our fullbacks today was awful.

The midfielder whose roll was to man mark BB and also scored two goals. None of our midfield ever look like doing this.

You are correct, but many teams have deployed this tactic but Blackburn really went full steam

I was thinking about this earlier and how we could have turned it around and pushed Bannan much further forward , but the sending off put paid to that

Winnall can’t play up front on his own. He’s about 20% as good as Fletcher.

Reach never left our half, first half.

Him and Murphy got pushed back (he’s awful - give me Harris any day) by Blackburn’s fullbacks. This didn’t help Winnall tbf.

Fox and Borner passed it to each other instead of trying to hit Winnall as it wasn’t working anyway. So we got pushed into our own corner.

They targeted the new lad at right back.

Lee didn’t win any tackles he usually would.

Bannan is a luxury - offers a lot on the ball but nothing off it.

Luongo pressed a bit but it doesn’t make up for a lack of a forward.

And to their credit, Holtby and other Blackburn players really shone today. They couldn’t wait to cut us open - we went for a dogged 433 to clog up a game and it failed.

Edit. We need 3/4 loan players.

Maybe 70 minutes with one player less had an effect..

I'm thinking it's weird now people not thinking it had an effect.

Sending off was a smokescreen. We’d have lost that game with 13 players. They nullified our only footballer, Bannan, and the whole thing fell apart. Our whole game, as basic as it sounds, revolves around Dawson giving it to a centre half, who then feeds Bannan.

They stopped us doing that after 90 seconds and we malfunctioned like a rusty dishwasher.

Scarily accurate.

However you forgot the bit where the defence chicken out and feed back to Dawson, who hoofs it to Winnall, who doesn't win it... and it returns to the opposition... and repeat.

Today , like last week, he was playing the deepest of the three in midfield but they pushed Holtby on him and he dropped even deeper and starts passing around with centre halves.

I think this is what Monk is on about when he said we were rubbish from the start because we tip tapping about at the back instead of going forward.

it didn't help but to roll over and surrender like we did is a bigger issue …….we were mind blowingly awful today ..

You’d think Monk would prepare the team on how to play when Bannan is marked out of the game? It happens most bloody matches and we never have an answer. What exactly do they do in training?

Shoot silly little 1 and half minute videos of themselves laughing and running around a bit for the club's social media.

This is what hurt most.

We just gave up today. Completely threw in the towel, stopped caring.

The defending, ten men or not, for some of Blackburn's goals was nothing short of appalling.
