name one owner in the entire English pyramid who has so far put that guarantee in place?

if our owner does it then spend away, he won’t obv because he’s the same as every other owner.

I don't know of guarantees but there are plenty that have bankrolled top teams.

And that's what I'm suggesting.

Owners are the ones who stand to gain financially.

So, if they want to actively chase this golden goose with our club, it should be without compromising the club's existence or finances.

According to Kieran Maguire they're actually looking to reduce the number of teams, or rather the elite clubs are

That would actually seem credible, as it would make it even more 'elite'.

So let's get this right, we've got the LFCs, MUFCs, CFCs, of this world trying to boost their own standing at our expense.

Then we've got the Clubs who have committee members within the EFL.  Fleetwood, Burton, Carlisle etc who would love to see the gap between them & the rest closed, again, at our expense.

Always fun with anything in life when you're 'caught in the middle'.

Let's be straight about this...Birmingham were under an embargo and, knowing this, went out and bought a player hence the big points deduction...both the issues with Derby and us are about the EFL  sanctioning the ground sales then backtracking to save face...coupled with that it took them EIGHT MONTHS before a decision on Bolton was made after Bolton appealed against what was a straightforward breach of rules. So girls let's not get our knickers in a twist eh lol

All Down to Gibson

This going back looking into accounts of the last few years seems to have happened since Rick Parry joined the EFL committee.

oh I agree but it doesn’t work like that, if they spend unless they guarantee it ( which they won’t) it’s the club in trouble. That’s why these rules were introduced. Just introduced and implemented horribly

So instead of allowing clubs to lose x amount per year.

How about allowing chairman to invest x amount per year.

It then creates a totally unfair game. The FFP rules are all about fairness, and financial stability. I personally don’t see an issue with that.

At times fans get lost in the fog of all this. We’ve got owners in the game selling football grounds to themselves for millions more than they are worth to pay the wages of mercenary footballers who just repatriate that cash to their own country. And for what? To get into a league where you pay 3 x more in wages?

Id love it if there was another ITV digital scenario and the game was reset.

Admirable sentiment, but the 'fairness' boat left port & sailed years ago.

The game in this country had to move on & adapt to compete with what had already happened in Italy & Spain, otherwise we would have become a 3rd rate domestic football power with top player's leaving in droves for the money abroad. Hence the birth of the Premier league.

We are at the same point in the Championship, where the existing framework is just not workable anymore.

Any arbitrary rules that are designed to enforce "Fairness & Financial Stabilty" inevitably do not work. It is a form of football socialism designed to control & limit the richer clubs to supposedly produce some imaginary level playing field that in reality achieves nothing & helps no one. All while the Championship clubs gaze out of the window of their 1 bedroom slum that the EFL kindly said they were allowed, while gazing at the unlimited mansions of the Premier League.

it doesn't work in public life & therefore doesn't work in football. Different people have different ambitions & trying to make everyone 'equal' is doomed to failure. Ask Corbyn.

Let's also remember, WHY owners are selling their grounds to themselves,  It isn't to line their own pockets.  It is to try & offset the unfair straitjacket, rules & penalties that the EFL have arbitrarily imposed.

As for "mercenary footballers". I don't disagree, but they get what market values dictate & to try & govern this smacks of the old 'maximum wage' days that was eventually smashed years ago.

You cannot govern & control market values and the inevitable consequences of trying to do so are there for all to see (as recently as December 12th).

The old 4 divisions system was no longer viable & was disbanded.

The EFLs treatment of the Championship is no longer viable & needs disbanding & replacing in the same way.

I know Gibson was the one making a noise but do people believe this is all him? I’m not sure about that, I don’t think he has that much pull at all.

the problems have started since Parry came on board. I said it earlier in this thread, my cynical side I askimg why a former pioneer of the prem league ( a major force behind starting it) as joined the EFL and instantly caused carnage with some of the top clubs.

one of two things he’s either come in and he’s seen it’s corrupt as fizz with the teams board members and he is really trying to clean up, or is this a destabilising exercise to introduce pl2?
it seems a lot of fans are already starting to promote that idea now, very clever way to subliminally introduce the idea no?

The championship will clearly change over the next few years. The PL have a vested interest in this as three teams enter their league (club) each year and three clubs leave. The parachute payments are clearly affecting the P&S of clubs, like us, competing with relegated clubs. The system is essentially promoting overspending in clubs trying to achieve a level playing field with clubs armed with £Ms from the PL for failure.

The EFL are more concerned with the large majority of clubs who either can't or don't spend to compete.

I can only see the championship being transferred to the PL, and classed as the PL2. This would benefit the PL in advertising, revenue in marketing and games shown under the brand. They would be able to drop the parachute payments from PL1 to PL2, and if needed have a vastly reduced payment structure for relegated teams from PL2 to the EFL league 2. Most championship clubs. like us, would benefit in being able to compete without this P&S nonsense, and have a proper commercial body managing the game. The EFL would benefit by being able to walk away from this constant problem and go away to properly managing the likes of Bury, Macclesfield et al. The fans would benefit because of all this, with the knowledge that the transition and gulf between the PL and championship is better managed.

same difference unless they write it off. They won’t. The owners put the money in its owed back to them.
goes back to what I said no owner will write it off. Therefor the rules are needed. Losses of 39 mill are pointless the implementation of the rules and the original set up of them are the problem.

Proper mess.

Let's just stay in the Championship I quite like it here.

because it risks our or other clubs like ours  future if they do and get bored or want to walk away if they do their nut on the gamble,

can you honestly still not see why these rules ( if implemented correctly ) are Important?

Has it not always been the case? Not as if DC is borrowing against the club and loading the debt on us. It's a commercial business and football is not a special case. So let them spend what they want as long as it is not loans from a bank etc. If we pay are tax bill that should be enough for the EFL.

He wants everyone to know how big his b011ox are.

Problem for him is if his predecessor has sanctioned everything both us and Derby have done and we’ve got it in writing, he could come out of this looking very silly.

reading the Mirror this morning, looks like Leeds manager is having a go as well now saying Leeds are doing things the right way unlike Wednesday and Derby lol. At least we didn't go into Administration to clear the debts leaving businesses to go bust.

I wonder if St Johns Ambulance ever got their money back.

Setting aside the valuation of the grounds.....

Itd be interesting how the EFL can ban clubs from seeking their grounds and renting them back? It’s a straight forward bit of business to raise funds, in itself not illegal and all above board. Even if they sell them to companies they own - happens all the time in business.

They can’t stop them from doing it but can say such money doesn’t count as income for FFP purposes.
