cowl
The whole side was very poor back then, and yet he still managed to stand out as being crap. He was whole-hearted, mind, but it's just not enough sometimes. Dire times looking back.
OhForAnotherShez
Not the most popular. Short term. Had an unsettled squad then. Prepared to put in time off the pitch.
beswetherick
Better than Danny Maddix and Ashley Westwood in his first season. Part of the squad that led us to one of our lowest ever finishes the season after

gillyno9
My memory of Dean Smith was him thinking he was a lot better than he actually was. He was an old school blocker and header. We were a poor poor side then in every sense of the word poor.
Popular Post Lord Snooty
Can you imagine Dean Smith when his agent rang him?! 32 years old. Spent his entire career bobbing about between divisions 3 & 4. 400 odd games a lower league journeyman. Coming to the end and probably thinking about eeking another year out and then hanging up the boots. "Ay up Dean, ive got you a move" "Who is it, Wealdstone? Havant and Waterlooville?" "No Dean, its Sheffield Wednesday" "Shut up, idiot." "Gods honest mate, oh and they want you to be skipper as well" "F'ck off" 1
Leaping Lannys Perm
In all the years he was manager at Brentford and now Villa, I can't believe no one has made this connection until now. That Pearson bloke at Watford looks familiar as well. P.s. sorry for being a wee pipe. Couldn't resist. 1

bradowl
Think we paid 50k for him from Orient, like everyone says, we were a poor side heading towards league one.

I think if you look back that many posters made the connection and even wanted him as manager before he joined Villa because he was one of ours. Nero
He was decent in all aspects of centre halfery except he had the turning circle of David Attenborough on a melting icecap.
