The Premier League are desperate for club like us, Leeds etc to get promoted. Teams such as Bournemouth, Watford, Norwich etc do nothing for their product.

Really? Looking at how tight and exciting it's been this season with the lesser clubs taking loads of points off the supposed big boys, I'm not so sure.

And if by their product you mean their relatively newly acquired worldwide audience, most of them won't know much about Sheffield Wednesday.

I'd love to see stats on this; never brought more than a bus to Hillsborough.

I do agree with you on the geographical thing though; anywhere too far north of London is going to be annoying to get to for you lot and that includes a lot of clubs so fair play on that side of things.

About 3k to London and around the south, 1.5k midlands, 1k up north depending on time of year etc. Whenever I've been to Hillsborough there's been around 1k of us. Obviously more now we're in the Prem but that'll be the same for most clubs.

Give over. Atmosphere at that second leg was electric at the Amex, too. Lots of your fans I spoke to after that game were really impressed with the ground and the atmosphere that night.

Atmosphere at the Amex is often pretty decent. As decent as it gets in this country thesedays, anyway.

Did you go to Hillsborough that night?

Exactly. People base their opinions of us as a club because of the 90s and 2000s, when the club was ripped apart by rogue owners. Just like the younger generations will base their opinion of you guys on the 2000s and 2010s.

We've always had decent support and a big catchment area.

You say Brighton have a history.....appreciate that you joined the league in 1921. You also say you’ve always had a decent support pre 2000.

but let’s compare the facts regards Brighton’s history compared to Sheffield.

Seasons in the top flight. Brighton 7 seasons, Blades 61, Owls 66.

Seasons averaging over 25K. Brighton 8 seasons, Blades 20 season, Owls 33 seasons

Seasons averaging over 30K. Brighton 3 seasons, Blades 9 seasons, Owls 11 seasons.

Seasons averaging below 10K. Brighton 47 seasons, Blades 7 season, Owls 9 seasons.

Think the last stat is the most telling.

Brighton have completed  92 seasons in league football.

So more than half of your history gates have failed to break 10,000.

Also more than half of your history (55 seasons) has been in the 3rd tier, so historically not even a Championship club.

Both Sheffield clubs have spent most of their histories in the top flight.

It’s a common misconception that Forest are such a big club.

Accept that winning the European Cup twice is massive but most of Forest’s history they’ve been (at best) firmly  a middle sized club.

Lets compare 3 clubs using the following stats.

Seasons in the top flight, highest average attendance, number of seasons averaging over 25K, league titles win and FA cups won.

Forest have been in the top flight 56, seasons, Blades 61 seasons, Owls 66 season.

Forest best support ever averaged 32K, Blades 35K, Owls 42K

Forest have averaged over 25K on 13 occasions, Blades 20 times, Owls 33 times

Forest league titles = 1,  Blades league titles = 1, Owls won the league 3 times.

Forest have won the FA cup 2 times, Blades 4 times and Owls 3 times.

Since 1971 Forest have only averaged over 25,000 for a total of 5 (five) seasons....that’s pretty poor support over the last 50 years.

Regards Brighton they have no history...they've only ever completed 6 (six) seasons in the top flight.

We have won the league 4 times.

some of them really don’t like us. I really cannot understand their insecurities. Given where they were 20 years ago, they rival Wimbledon in terms of quick success.

I am not a their stadium. It does not have much character or atmosphere. However they have done things the right way on and off the pitch and we can learn a lot from them.

12 pages of Brighton fans frothing at the mouth about Sheffield Wednesday.

Fantastic.

On the EFS (European Football statistics) site it says 3 titles in the summary section

but when you read through the actual seasons it is FOUR titles. Winners in 03, 04, 29 and 30.

Remember it like it was yesterday :duntmatter:

Any Wednesdayite would have known that without the need to look it up

It's funny isn't it? One laments being a Wednesdayite most of the time; to be honest it's pretty poo. But then you remember you could support one of these plastic clubs with no real history, who have to make up rivalries and who's greatest players are all from the last five years and you remember that class is permanent no matter how dusty it gets, where as form is temporary.

All very true, but that's history and counts for nothing now.

Brightons future looks much more brighter than ours at the moment. Big new ground which can be easily expanded.  Bigger catchment are than us (dividing Sheffields population in half).
