Nah they went down last day of season, lost and we won to leapfrog em into 22nd.

We went down 2 weeks before em and still finished ahead.

We sent them down in 2006 though, at their place.

It's pretty brutal but funny as the owls fans were singing 'You're going down in 10 minutes.'  then 'You're going down in 5 minutes'

I said this years ago about them, they built that new stadium and all of a sudden these "supporters" turned up from nowhere.

The grounds not actually in Brighton itself is it? I might be wrong though lol

There was no land available in Brighton. Therefore it had to be built in the AONB - area of outstanding natural beauty. On the Sussex Downs.

It took years to get planning permission. Numerous Public Inquires with loads of objectors.

They ended up with just the stadium in the Countryside - with no available parking, which had to be travelled to by public transport. I think the public travel commitment was part of the permission and the travel pricing in with the ticket price.

The stadium is ordinary - but the concept is good, other than both sets of fans mixing on the buses after the game.

Nobody started it because its been done before, yawn

I like the idea that this thread has been up half a day and you've sat there trying to think of a witty post...and that's the best you could come up with.

And, if people were given a pound for every stupid/irrelevant thread started, then youd be a f00king millionaire.

Personally I cannot stand Brighton. I appreciate how well they have done to get up to where they are but I find their fans really irritating. Goes back to when we beat them 3-1 at Hillsborough back in 2013, the way they moaned about how good they were and how sh!t despite the fact he wiped the floor with them. Then all the nonsense with their assistant manager saying what he said to Jones. Also they were very ungracious in defeat in 2016 and even less so in victory the year later when they won at Hillsborough.

At least concerning America, wholly incorrect.  Robust supporters club.

Thank you Socialist_Owl, Owls Americas are robust in our support, but we are not many, if you're counting by "millions."  To generate millions of fans, and billions of dollars, worldwide, means being in the top 4, 1st Tier, and even then, the millions of  "XYZ till I die"...."fans", change allegiance as the fortunes of "their" Club change, and the world-wide fan-base, t.v.  and resultant overseas money stops right then, right there, when "their Club" is relegated to Tier 2...and their "allegiance"  goes to whomever is currently "kicking ass."

Wednesday has a LOYAL fan-base, mostly in England, but it's growing in the USA, and Owls Americas is doing everything to further this growth.

Thank you again for recognizing the small contribution of Owls Americas, might be small, but it's pure, whatever Tier Wednesday is playing in, we don't change allegiance, most of us recall the Tier 3 times, and if it happens again, we'll be there too....

Yes it must be horrible to be in the Prem and also be a very well run club. We don’t want any of that here thank you very much.

Think you're missing the point a bit.

Not the first time.

Problem us that it's this kind of attitude that makes us so unpopular.

All this big and small club stuff is balls. 20 years out of the top flight and a half full stadium that's falling down says we are not a big club. Brighton have a new stadium that's full every week and are hosting the likes of Liverpool and Man City every week.

These so-called smalls clubs are bringing in a quarter of a billion a year with a worldwide TV audience. In the world of football these days, we are the tinpot club, not them.

Tinpot my arze.

Ask Man U or Arsenal fans etc whether they would rather play Wednesday Forest Wolves United etc with a proper away following or the landfill clubs like Brighton Burnley or Bournemouth?

I was in NYC at the legends soccer bar with the NY owls for the play offs v Brighton. 40 odd Wednesday fans. 2 tinpot Brighton.

Owls Americas is doing a great job.

The older generation in there 40's/50's upwards will.

The younger generation will recognise us as Championship side and won't be arsed.

No SiJ I think you are.

Not really.

Original post was just a bit of a joke at Brighton's expense. No reference to them being tinpot. In fact it was acknowledged they are well run and in the Prem.

You should read it.

I'm 62 years old, and have to agree with you, most of the "younger generation" is of  the sort which supports whomever is kicking-ass in the 1st Tier.  Don't understand it myself, but then again, I'm an old guy, started being a Wednesday fan in 1970, still am today, still will be next year....."happy clapper?"  yes and no, I'll always clap, but not necessarily "happy."   Sorry that's off-topic, the topic being Brighton...

Well, meaningless match or not. Wednesday won, and it's always better to win, than to lose, even when it "doesn't matter."

The reason why there are so many "Tin Pot Clubs" is due to the way Television money is distributed. In the days before SKY T.V. the big clubs were the ones who got the biggest gate receipts and had bigger followings. Since SKY started they changed the way income streams are distributed with equal monies going to each team. This gives an advantage to clubs with lower costs. Smaller grounds = lower maintenance, policing, power, council tax, fewer stewards, etc. It often costs "bigger" clubs more to put a game on than they receive in gate monies.

I would like to see a formula where the Television money follows the supporter instead, after all I wager that more Sheffield Wednesday fans have a SKY Sports subscription than any of the afore mentioned "tin pot" teams.

Are they bo11ocks.

A select few are bringing in that audience and the rest reap the benefits.

No one from America, China etc is tuning in to watch Brighton and Hove Albion.

Fair to say they wouldn't be tuning in to watch us either if we ever got promoted
