We’re too accepting of mediocrity. We’ve been conditioned to accept our lot with just a few quiet grumbles.

Other clubs would have their fans kicking up a s*******m with how we’ve fared over the last few years. The club has had its reputation tarnished, and we’ve been made to look like fools by our city rivals.

I genuinely don't understand what you are saying here. What is it that fans should be doing differently? What outcomes would differ as a result, and why?

True, but only the fans can change that atmosphere. It's a viscous circle at the moment.

As a fanbase I think we have to decide what we want. If we expecting promotion any time soon or champagne football then we are going to be bitterly disappointed.

Think back to Wembley against Hull. We lost after a similarly dull performance, we weren't crying though we're we? We sang for our team, it was a carnival atmosphere, so much so we spoilt their celebrations. Nothing would spoil our day.

Why can we do that there but not at Hillsborough?

All I'm saying our attitude and mindset can have an impact on the players.

Totally disagree.

The club have created a demographic of prepaid apathetic fans. We are an elderly season ticket club now, with fans going through the motions until they decide enough is enough, and stop stumping up £600 quid every year.

We have killed POTG.

We have killed future generations.

We do nothing to attract the younger generation.

We have taken a massive wrong turn. We need to stop going down this path and reverse quickly.  If not progressive clubs like the scrubbers will get get further in front. We should be in front of them not the other way round.

Sad but true. We need to wake up.

It would be about as useful as his suggestion that us fans don't sit idly by and accept mediocrity

Yep.

Joking aside, my contribution to "not accepting mediocrity" may well be not renewing my ST after over a decade. This has been an experimental year, in that for the past decade I've had an ST first with both kinds, then with the youngest. They've grwon up, off to uni, etc, so this year I have had one on my own.

Not sure that this will feed through into better results and performances on the pitch, however.

I believe we are the leagues top away goal scorers. We have been sensational at times away from home this season.
we do have an issue at home where we over possess the ball and teams adjust to our lack of pace in the front 6, so can front is relatively easily.

we need that one player with legs and pace who, when we are at home,  can get a defence worried about how far they are pushing up the pitch.

The kids pricing is outstanding to be fair

Its the 35-50 year olds that would be taking the kids that are not coming

The young adult pricing isn't outstanding. There's a price hike at age 17 which means you go from loose change to quite serious money, either for a kid or parent. Then there's nothing to tempt the 21-26yos pricewise.

But it's not just price. I have seen people on here disparage what Leicester and Palace do to artificially stimulate atmosphere in their grounds. "Tinpot" tends to be the word used.

We absolutely should be learning lessons from clubs like that.

Very good post and totally agree with you.  I was saying to my mate on the way home yesterday and I’ve put a few posts on here about how bad the atmosphere is down at Hillsborough. It’s like a morgue - no spark, no excitement, no nothing. Totally flat.

It’s down to DC to change it - he needs to get the fanbase base back on side on a number of issues but especially match day pricing.

It's 25 years tomorrow since I missed a home league game. But sometimes it feels like I'm dragging myself along when I really can't be arsed just so I don't end that record.

I know exactly how you feel. Prior to the Birmingham City game in November I hadn't missed a home league since Len Ashurst was Manager, and prided myself with my record. Missed the Brum match through illness, and the spell was broken. I didn't attend on Boxing Day through choice, and will probably miss more matches before the end of the season despite being a ST holder. The dire performances on the pitch have never discouraged me before, but when the idiotic stewarding, the refreshment prices, and the fact that I am forced to park a mile from the ground are taken into consideration, then the whole, once enjoyable experience seems to become more of a compulsory chore than something to be eagerly anticipated.

A purely personal grouse which adds to my discontent is the fact that I contacted the club during the close season regarding disabled parking, and was told that there were no vacancies and a long waiting list, yet at every game I stand at half time and gaze at the mass of vacant spaces next to the Club Shop.

Spot on.

He's somehow managed to divide and alienate the fanbase, and created a massive sense of apathy.

All a bit bizarre to get the wealthiest owner in our history, start off really well, and then to lose our way so dramatically.

A big points deduction, and the shiit really hits the fan.

Time to stop everything, and reevaluate our plan and roadmap. The current one hasn't a chance in hell of promotion.

Ticket policy needs scrapping and starting from scratch.

Squad building and transfer policy needs scrapping and starting again from scratch.

Day to day running of the club process needs scrapping and starting again from scratch with a competent CEO to assist DC.

Do all of the above and set a 3 year target for promotion.

I agree with pretty much everything you've said but I'm not sure with what of I said you disagree. That was/is merely factual.

There was a young lad in the grandstand singing his heart out for Barry Bannan. He didn't care how they were playing it that we were losing he just loved that player and his team. You could probably hear him on the kop.

It's sad to think it's got to the point where kids are too scared and embarrassed to sing because they might get told off by the librarian for non sanctioned singing.

Yes there are problems but I think that is more to do with the whole game in general not just Wednesday. You see it in the PL as well. It's all about money now, to compete.

The people in the ground have paid their money. Do they have to be miserable barstewards whist they are there?

Just a question. If we were top of the league, playing the same football as we are now would Hillsborough be singing? You bet!

Going very well for Brentford that model.

wouldnt it be great to unearth rough gems and turn them into stars.

We are getting left behind by teams such as the Brentford, Brighton, Leicester, Burnleys of this world which would have been unthinkable in the SWFC 90s, a genre most of us fans still live in and yearn for.
