What’s the point in playing Rhodes?

What? Like all those (6 for those who are counting) who have been leaving him out of our team, even when we've had crippling injury lists? Or all those who have made no effort to sign him despite knowing he'd been a failure here and we were in a desperate financial position? How about all those supposedly less talented players who have been comprehensively outscoring the man who "guarantees goals" (tm) despite a supposed "lack of service" (tm)?

As for stats (sigh), the only impressive ones are receding ever further into the mists of time.

How fine the Emperor looks in his new outfit.

How far back in the mist is this one?

Last season and this season, so that’s right upto date.

1447 league minutes

9 goals

Goal every 161 minutes

Check that out against any of our current crop.

It includes no penalties.

They refused to pay any kind of transfer fee. It's really not very difficult.

Any actual concrete evidence on this. You seem to be very factual ?

Does this include last season when he was playing for the best side in the division and he was coming off in the dying minutes when they were bombarding the opposition?

I bet the likes of Nuhiu and Winnall would include their goal ratio with that kind of approach.

5 managers have had the opportunity to play him for Wednesday regularly and none of them have done so. If he is so effective why aren't other teams banging the door down to get a striker who is not regularly in our team?

They refused to pay any transfer fee for anyone though as they’ve used the prem money to pay off debts and get the club back on an even keel financially, that’s their transfer strategy.. it’s just twisting facts to suggest it’s because they don’t rate Rhodes enough

Aw bless. Keep the faith guys, and one day I'm sure your prince will come.

What he did for Norwich is an outlier against the greater body of work over the last three years or so. There have been periods in the career of Carlton Palmer, Andy Pearce, Lawrie Madden and Nigel Pearson that are way out of proportion with most of their work. In the season when he scored 32 for us, David Hirst had a spell of something like 2 goalsin 17 league games.

Minutes per goal is for naive, giddy and superficial judgements anyway, especially over short spells, but Norwich had a couple of midfielders with comparable strike rates to Rhodes. But just as has been the case here, it did not compare well with players in the same position and under the same circumstances.

Had Rhodes not compiled the statistics he had in the past (on largely unsuccessful teams it should be pointed out for those who bang on about prolific strikers) and judged solely on what he has done in the last three years, no on would be defending him like they do here.

It was widely discussed at the time.

But regardless of that, so far as we know, NOT ONE club made any kind of even modest offer for him. Now ask yourself, with none of your 'look at the stats (in 2014)' shrieking - why have all six managers we've had not fancied him, even when we've had catastrophic injury lists? How come everyone knows we are not playing him and are desperate to rescue the financial mess yet not offered to take such a supposed talent off our hands? Why has he offered so little, for so long, even as plenty of other forwards have not had a problem finding the net in the same circumstances? And why is the list of clubs he has played for so relatively modest?
