Hutchinson was terrible again. He's not a midfielder or a right back.

He was the best midfielder when he played there.....showed that he’d be the best right back we’ve had for many a year if he played there regularly and was also the best centre back in the sort time he played there

You should only comment on the actual game, not react to a FIFA duplicate you’ve been playing this afternoon

Dawson 6 - Couldn't fault him with either goal, kicking a little awry.
Palmer 3 - After 1 good season his long standing faults have returned. Christ knows what him & Lees were doing for their 1st.

Iorfa 4 - Hit a poor patch of form, stood a couple of yards behind the rest of the back 4 & played the winger onside for the 2nd.

Lees 5 - Culpable with Palmer for the 1st goal, redeemed himself slightly with our goal.

Fox 5 - Average, seemed reluctant to get forward & when he did looked to be running in treacle trying to get back.

Hutchison 7 - MOTM for me, at least tried to drive us forward.

Bannan 6 - Worked hard but his passing was off.

Murphy 3 - Waste of a shirt, lightweight, put more effort into running off the pitch when he was subbed than he had all match.

Reach 3 - Poor ball control, would lose a tackle with his grandmother.

Harris 3 - Steadily getting worse by the game, awful decision making.

Winnall 5 - Worked hard but not what we need.

Monk 3 - Baffling team selection & substitutions.  We concede 2 poor injury time goals at Stoke but he still leaves our best CB on the bench & surprise, surprise the back four give away 2 howlers in the first 10 mins. Murphy hasn't done anything worthwhile since the first home match of the season.  When interviewed after the match he said Iorfa was taken off so he could tweek the line up to give the full backs chance to get forward, yet Iorfa is far more likely to create something going forward than Palmer.

Dawson 6. Some decent work.

Palmer 5. Struggled and never made any real progress forward either

Dom 4. Keystone cops stuff in first half. Looked off his game throughout

Lees 5. poor but scored

Fox 6. One of our better performers on the day.
Murphy 3. Wretched for most of the match.

Hutch 5. 3 different positions, got stuck in but didn’t influence game enough

Bannan 6. Worked very hard, good corner for goal, bit off his range.

Harris 3. Tough game, didn’t get going,

Reach 5, some ok moments, knitted a few moves together and worked hard but lacked quality.

Winnall 4. Ran but showed no cunning or quality.

Rhodes 3. Ran but did nothing else

Borner  3. Shocking. clearly not fit yet.

Nuhiu 5. Battled, nearly scored, did more than Winnall and Rhodes.

we probably deserved a draw against a poor Cardiff team for whom Tomlin looked decent and they battled well in defence.

Dawson - 6 - Not sure he could have done anything with either goal...certainly blameless for the 2nd, could he have done better with the 1st? Maybe, but certainly not a glaring error. Other than that, did everything, with little fuss; the odd dodgy pass aside.

Palmer - 4 - For me, he's, partly, at fault for both goals. Far too hesitant, almost bottles the challenge with Glaztel (along with Lees) for the 1st goal, and he has to track the run of Hoillett for the 2nd. Hoillett has acres of space on the penalty spot, whilst Palmer's six yards away from him marking nobody. Careless in possession at times as well. Bad day at the office.

Iorfa - 5 - Another big unit he's struggled against. Vokes had the better of him on Boxing Day, and Glaztel dominated today. Neither he nor Lees seem to settle each other down...they are fine when things are comfortable and going well, but when the backs are against the wall, they seem to initiate panic between themselves. Odd substitution to bring him off however.

Lees - 5 - Like Palmer, he's at fault for both goals. Fails to win the challenge with Glaztel for the 1st, and allows Tomlin to drift in behind him for the 2nd. Gets a mark back for a good goal, but generally, he looked rushed, panicked and lacking composure.

Fox - 6 - I'd have to see the goals back again, to see if Fox was culpable, seen as the source of both came down our left flank. But, generally, I thought he was one of the better players today. Seem to defend well enough, and always wanted the ball down the left hand side, if lacking a bit in quality at key times.

Hutchinson - 7 - Man of the Match - I think he gets the award by default really. Can't see he had a great game by any stretch of the imagination, but tried to drive things forward in the 1st half, and proved his versatility in the 2nd by playing three positions adeptly in the space of 10 minutes.

Bannan - 6 - Worked tirelessly, and tried to make things happen, as he always does. But alas, it wasn't his day. Too many ambitious balls didn't come off, and I felt he dropped too deep in the 2nd half at a time when we needed him making things happen further forward (although, I acknowledge, Monk's strange substitutions forced him to play that role). That said, another assist and a great through ball in the 1st half for Winnall.

Murphy - 6 - Little unfortunate today he didn't have more of an impact on the game. Seems to drift in and out of games, but there were periods where he looked a threat and looked to have the beating of the full back. Couple of really good crosses/ball across the box which should've been rewarded with better.

Harris - 4 - As poor a game as he's had. One thing you can almost guarantee with Harris usually, is the beating of his full back. Not today. Bacuna defended against him brilliantly, and Harris simply looked devoid of ideas and answers.

Reach - 4 - Competition winner is back again. He's not a No. 10. Never has been. Never will be. Can we stop trying to shoe horn him in that position! He was poor from the outset and looked sluggish throughout. That summed his day up, when the Cardiff centre half left him for dead in the 2nd half when breaking away.

Winnall - 6 - Got himself in some good positions in the 1st half, and seemed to cause their centre halves some problems. Unfortunate not to score with the blocked shot, but demonstrated his lack of quality when put through by Bannan, failing to see a simple lay off to put Murphy in.

Rhodes - 5 - That Forest performance was an anomaly wasn't it?

Borner - 6 - Out of the 3 centre halves, he handled Glaztel the best. Poor distribution though.

Nuhiu - N/A - Not on long enough, but why did we continue to prat about with it at the back when we brought him on?!

Overall...

1st half I actually thought we played alright, without ever excelling. We were sloppy for the goals, and it's becoming a bit of an issue now. Defensively, we've been so strong this season...but of late, we're getting sloppy and making too making simple errors. It gave us a massive uphill battle, but actually, at half time we deserved to be at the very least, level. Lees goal, along with two or three blocked shots around the six yard box and Bannan's shot superbly saved, should have seen us equalise.

2nd half though...utterly clueless. And the players have to take responsibility for that...but Monk has to shoulder some blame. His substitutions were hopeless. It gave us nothing different...in fact made us worse. Why take Iorfa off (I'm assuming he wasn't injured, he went on a rampaging run 30 seconds previous), and move Hutchinson back? Why not bring Odubajo on as a straight swap for Palmer? Hutchinson is good at a lot of things...playing as a marauding full back, is not one. And even down to bringing Nuhiu on, for Murphy... Nuhiu wants crosses into the box, why sacrifice a winger? Surely, Fox had to be sacrificed at some point, and Reach shifted to left back in a game we were chasing.

Too much time was wasted, casually passing the ball about in our own half. There's method to playing that way...but you either have to have a team willing to come out and press (Cardiff were not moving from their 5-4-1) or you have to pass with purpose and move forward with it as a team. We did nothing. Played straight into Cardiff's hands. Bamba, Flint and Nelson's 2nd half was far too comfortable, given the situation of the game.

If the 4-2-3-1 is an option Monk wants to deploy from time to time...then he has to get a player capable of playing that No. 10 role. Because at present, we look so turgid and one dimensional in that set up.

Bannan probably but those straight balls did my head in today

There were two straight balls that were great. One was hit towards Nuhiu who just ran across the line when he should have planted his feet and gone all “arse and elbows” to receive it; and the other was hit to Rhodes who reacted too late and lost out.
