I still think Palmer is much better when he plays left back for some reason

He would be my choice to play there and bring in a right back (if possible) and let the 3 centre backs fight it out for 2 spots. All 3 of which have been outstanding so far.

Sorry if already mentioned but how bad did Hunt look?

Bannan man of match for the bottle. Borner has to play over Lees for me. Not a dig at Lees but Borner is just better.

we are blessed with 3 very good centre backs who I cant split  and if one drops out with injury or suspension its going to be very hard for them to get back in …….

Lees has been outstanding since his return.

Conceded 3 goals in 5 games, one of which a ludicrously needless pen.

Whatever you think, Monk will not be dropping him.

Rock solid defensively but we miss Fletcher.. today shows what he brings us normally..

Yes but how good is it that we squeezed out a win without him, so he can come back fresh and strong at Stoke?

Dawson - 7 - Yet another, remarkably quiet game. But, showed really good handling throughout the game, and when Bristol started going direct towards the end, was strong enough to quash any pressure they attempted to exert.

Palmer - 7 - Versatile. Strong defensively, and tidy enough going forward.

Iorfa - 7 - Could've played with his slippers on today, given Bristol's total lack of threat. Looked just as comfortable when moved to right back, and threatened with a couple of marauding runs.

Lees - 8 - Class. Dominant against Diedhiou, who can be a tricky opponent to play against.

Fox - 6 - Started the game comfortably. Pity it was cut short.

Bannan - 9 - Man of the Match - Marvellous. We struggled to break down the resolute Bristol back five, but Bannan was the main catalyst to any success we had. Exquisite ball to put Reach in in the 1st half, unlucky not to score twice before finally netting the winner from the spot.

Luongo - 7 - He and Bannan really competed well despite been outnumbered in midfield. Looking settled and his performances are getting better.

Reach - 7 - Fine game, always looking to make things happen. Probably should've done better with his chance in the 1st half.

Harris - 8 - Jack Hunt will sleep tonight (mind you, he might have another nightmare when he does drop off!). Run Hunt ragged, and was a constant threat for us.

Rhodes - 6 - Struggled to get into the game. Unfortunately not to get a couple of breaks in and around the box.

Nuhiu - 7 - Really important performance. Caused Bristol's defenders numerous issues, won a lot of flick on's, and showed a bit of cleverness, we usually lack, to win the penalty.

Borner - 7 - Like Lees, thought he battled with Diehiou well and came out on top.

Winnall - 6 - Little impact.

Pelupessy - N/A

Overall...

In the end, we've won the game with a really soft penalty. Very similar to the one Odubajo was penalised for at Derby...it was clumsy from the defender, and made the referee make a decision. But, make no mistake, there was only one team deserving of victory today. Bristol showed no ambition whatsoever, and effectively set up with a really narrow 5-4-1. It was always going to be a slog to break them down, but we kept at it, and eventually got our rewards.

Limited Bristol to just one effort on goal inside the box, yet continued to probe Bristol's goal for a breakthrough. If it hadn't been for Bentley, it'd have been a far more comfortable victory. The  sort of games good sides win. Battered them in terms of xG as well...2.4 - 0.4. As deserving a victory as we've seen all season.

* Meant to be an 8 for Palmer.

Clear our best defence is Iorfa RB, Lees, Borner, Palmer LB.

Fox is decent but Palmer gives us more dynamism and pace and links a lot better. Said it before he can become our Philip Lahm.

If we can move Rhodes on to Celtic for 2m half season loan fee and get his 800k wages off the books (+2m perm transfer at end season) and sign Lyle Taylor for say 1m and 15k per week wages then we'll take some stopping.

            Dawson

Iorfa Lees Borner Palmer

          Loungo

  Reach     Bannan  Harris

         Fletch

                    Taylor

Boom

Defensively yes. With the ball at his feet no.

Just think Borner is a better footballer. No

problem with Lees just prefer Borner

Dawson 6

Palmer 7 looks alot better since ban

Iorfa 7
Lees/borner 7

Fox 6

Reach 7

Luongo 6

Bannan 8* ran cm again

Harris 7

Nuhiu 6 struggled like vs brentford, but extra point for somehow winning pen

Rhodes 5 not much service, missed fletch

Looked like a dull 0-0 vs a limited side, performance way off forest in final 3rd despite usual workrate, but especially without fletch, a potentially valuable win
