We're likely to come in for Fox

So Fox is pretty much a mainstay in the third best defence in the league. Plays well with Harris and Bannan down the left,  with us sitting in play offs despite throwing away 6-8pts this season.... and many of the posts on here seemingly want to give him away.

Odd, really odd.

Think you’re missing the point. He can leave for free in the summer. As a free transfer he would most likely be able to negotiate wages higher than we could offer. He has been treated badly by our supporters so why sign a new contract.

Selling him in Jan and getting him off the wage bill makes perfect sense especially as we have cover in defence

fizz me all of a sudden Fox has turned into a irreplaceable mainstay in our Rolls Royce of a team :duntmatter: is he doing ok at the moment ? yes

Is he anywhere near the standard we should be aspiring too ?

not in. Million

its amazing what people will settle for

Can anyone really see him as a future premiership player ?

Maybe Billic does

one can only hope

We don’t though, really. Palmer and Thorniley can do a job there but they aren’t specialists. Penney is promising but inexperienced, on loan in Germany and injured/recovering from injury. If Palmer plays LB then we’re changing the whole defence round (assuming Iorfa at RB) and breaking up a solid CB partnership (appreciate Börner could come in though). If Palmer gets injured/banned then we’re very light.

Fox isn’t ever gonna get you out of your seat but his performances are vastly improved since Monk came in and he’s playing like a solid, dependable Championship LB as part of a settled defence which is looking better game by game. He won’t be on big money and we’d be lucky to get 1m for a player in last six months of his contract so any financial benefit is negligible.

We’re in with a shout of promotion. No point upsetting the apple cart for the sake of a small transfer fee and cutting a small % of the wage bill, IMO. In an ideal world we’d extend his contract and look to sign another specialist LB in summer if Penney isn’t ready to challenge yet

This, this, a million times this!

Potential opportunity cost/risk to us if he stays and doesn’t sign a contract is 1-2m.

Potential opportunity cost/risk to us if he goes and we don’t have adequate cover is 100m plus.

For what it’s worth if we’re giving/selling all players on cheap if they’re out of contract in summer we’ve got a fair few others that the boo boys like. Do we do the same with Hutch, Fletcher and co too?

Whether he stays or leaves - I hope he stays - the great news is he must be brimming with newly found confidence.

He’s nailed down his place in a promotion-challenging side, he’s getting fan support and he’s attracting headline interest from other clubs.

I expect we will see some strong displays from him over the next few matches.

To be fair to Reda, forcing the ball over the line is a pretty good skill to have...

Reda played 87 games for us and scored 19 goals and got 11 assists.

Fox just played his 88th games for as last week and he's scored 2 goals and got 5 assists, so even if he is technically sound, that's not worth the +23 goals that Reda brought in the same time.

Scoring goals is a very useful asset for a defender, Redas size certainly helped him do that. It’s no use scoring however if you are going to give away as many goals as you score by being out of position/ball watching etc. You only have to look at the levels Reda has played at in his career to realise how poor a defender he is.

Because we still have P&S issues. Sell Fox, save his wages and replace from within. Palmer to LB, Iorfa to RB

Fox will be on a pittance so selling him won’t make a difference. We have one of the best defences in the league with (apparent) interest in our CB who has improved massively in this position over the past few months and you want to break it up and shift them around for 500k?

I’m not against selling fox given his contract status, if we do however we have to invest in a new left back.
