Jordan Rhodes.

To be fair to Rhodes , it’s the first time he’s played under a decent manager here . The con artist Carlos was well and truly being found out by the time he arrived , jos was on another planet and he was at Norwich when Bruce was here . His own poor performances can’t go excused but it looked like the other night at Derby he’d remembered how to play football and yesterday that he’d remembered he was a deadly penalty box poacher .

I think you honestly haven't a clue. Every opinion you share smacks of someone who hasn't laced a boot playing any sport not even at amature level. Literally if you shared an opinion we would just be better off doing the opposite. Thanks though for sharing. Always better to have shared.

The trouble is, too many people on here think about football how it was played in the last century The games moved on, it’s no good being stuck in the past

Absolutely nailed.

Coco went on record as saying he had told Rhodes he needed to changes his game. Rhodes is an out and out goal scorer, a fox in the box, a pocher, he isn't going to run the channels, he dosen't have blistering pace or eye catching flair, but what he does have is natural finishing ability that you can't teach.

Coco completely wasted him, Dross was smoking crack and Bruce never got to work with him.

Monk is the first proper manager to work with him and who know what Rhodes is about and what he brings to the table and that's GOALS.

So happy for him!! You could see in pre season him and Fletcher where developing something. And under Bruce he would have got a chance. However he went, and there has been upheaval, but now worked hard, never moaned and think last 3 games we are seeing that work he has put in. Obviously yesterday the casing point. We need to use his assets and that is six yard box delivery and we did. Brilliant.  What a win. Uto

Absolute rounduns, the new football intelegentsia would like you to think it has, all the ticky tacky cr@p but ultimately it's about putting the ball in the opponents net more than they put it in yours. Statistically most goals in football come from crosses into the box and we probably have 2 of the best forwards outside the premier in converting those types of chances.

A laughable thread.

Well to be honest, I  have been one of those that was saying he's had his day, but fair play to him yesterday's  game just showed what a good player he can be, it has taken a long time, but let's all hope he can really kick on from here.

And can you imagine the amount of space Jack Hunt is going to leave Harris in behind.

:tango:

How long have you been watching us?

You know full well Hunt will make one from a sublime cross and score one from a mazy dribble and powerful shot.

Just watched Rhodes post match interview, firstly comes across as a nice bloke but seems to have a certain fragility about him. I reckon he’s very much a confidence player.

He’s always been a confidence striker. No surprise - most strikers are.

He’s had several barren runs in his career, but once he starts he goes on great scoring spells.

12/13 season. 8 in 10, 7 in 6

13/14 season.  9 in 7, 6 in 6, 8 in 10

14/15 season.  4 in 5,  9 in 12

15/16 season. 7 in 5,  4 in 4

Thereafter he joined us and it’s all gone Pete Tong, but fingers crossed, touch-wood, not counting chickens etc etc...

Yeah, but the whole point of keeping possession is so the opposition have less of the ball, therefore they can't put in as many crosses. Man City only conceded 23 goals last season, and it wasn't because they have brilliant defenders, it was because the opposition didn't have the ball.

But, that said, football is about a contrast of styles. We tried to do what Wolves did and buy a team to pass a way out of the division and that didn't work. And there are lots of bad teams in the Championship trying to tika-taka out of defence with Championship centre backs so it doesn't always work. One of the best ways to play against these tika-taka teams is to get the ball forward early and play with two up front to beat the press and keep possession high up the pitch. Monk understands this. But he also understands you need to have enough quality on the ball to keep possession and pass it around when needed - otherwise you will be constantly losing the ball and inviting pressure onto yourself.

He comes across as a really likeable chap, but the lack of even a hint of ego or arrogance is jarring from a modern footballer.

Even the crap ones usually seem to have an overinflated opinion of themselves!

A perfect performance by Rhodes yesterday 10 out of 10 from me.

Yesterday the first half was the perfect storm for Rhodes, with  Bannan, Harris, Reach and Fox providing great delivery. Fletcher rampant causing chaos and the big men from the back up for some of the best corners we have delivered in a long while.

I hope he can maintain this level of performance when we are not as dominant and the chances are not as free flowing.
