That song is about size. Not quality.

With villa back in the prem I'm struggling to think of a club with a bigger stadium than us...

Leeds are getting 35k every week. We can’t get anything like that in Hillsborough.

With the SAG restrictions on us, I think Forest, Derby, Boro and Cardiff all have bigger current capacities than we do aswell.

Having attended most home matches last season and this season you can't help notice how quiet and soulless Hillsborough's become. We've even got away fans attending and remarking on it as well as chants about it from the away support. It got me wondering if it would improve the atmosphere if we were to redevelop or even relocate. Something's got to be done or the place will only get worse if success doesn't happen very soon. I can't imagine many people who attend Hillsborough for the first time feel the need to rush back.

Only way is to produce on the field, never had a problem with atmosphere when doing well

Your second sentence contradicts the first...?

Why?

I'm saying, that with cheaper tickets and successful football the atmosphere will be fine.

But, having a good atmosphere doesn't keep the FFP wolves away from our doors, and therefore Chansiri is forced into charging high ticket prices, which will naturally have an effect on the attendances and therefore the atmosphere.

Leeds are averaging bigger crowds but our ground is bigger and currently the biggest in the championship.

Depends if you use the 39k figure for the capacity or what the actual capacity is with SAG and the north west being out of action.

Not that it matters at the minute anyway, it looks like it’ll be a few years before we next see another crowd above 30k at Hillsborough.

Absolutely!

I also think people are equating ‘atmosphere’ with constant ‘noise’.

Hillsborough can can be quiet, no doubt.

It can also put the ‘constant artificial noise’ merchants with their generic football chants to shame.

The likes of Palace, even clacking Leicester (with all their recent success), can only dream of creating genuine atmosphere like we had against Brighton or even on a lower key game, the late goal against Fulham.

No doubt people will say how few & far between these occasions are, but I’d still rather have prolonged periods of quiet & genuine gradually rising crescendo than the pathetic noise at any cost that people now mistakenly class as ‘atmosphere’.

It's easy peasy this segregation of away fans in the lower south idea. Had the idea way back  just after 89 ....

Do a similar version of Blackburns Darwen end with the indoor steel door in lower concourse enter over the bridge or side of leppings lane ..no need to close vere road etc just block the road at the bridge for specific time in and time out escort them in and out ..

It's not difficult with a bit of give n take

Maximum of 2000 away fans for all clubs ..

Then ring Nick Knowles n his chums to give the West a reyt good seeing to to merge in with the Canterlever ..

Where police box is build a 2 story set up to include police on one floor TV on another ...

That helps segregate home n away in that corner ...

Build a wall of used werthers to segregate home n away in the south ...

The only club in the country to have 2 kops ....

Bung away fans up in the grandstand.

Own concourse. Separate turnstiles for access.

Access over the bridge.

Redevelop West Stand with family area, media area etc.

Ground holds us back but goes hand in hand with Wednesday fans obsession with living the past.
having said that , the fact we never have any success or excitement bar dragging ourselves out the third tier several years ago plays a big part. As does the same faces turning up week in week out as the casual fan no longer bothers

How many other grounds in the country look virtually exactly the same as they did in the mid 90s? Elland Road and Loftus Road are the only two I can think of.

Every other ground in the top two leagues has either been redeveloped or built from new in the last 25 years.

If Chansiri does put any more money into the club I’d rather he put it into the ground than players.

We wasted money in the 90s on the likes of Hinchcliffe, Jonk and de Bilde instead of developing the ground and then we’ve done it again on Rhodes, Abdi, van Aken, Jones and Boyd.

But the reality is unless we get promoted, nothing will happen. I don’t think Chansiri has the appetite to take on something with the cost of either redeveloping Hillsborough or building a new ground.

We spent millions re developing the south stand and building a bridge over the river

That was a large part of the reason we had a large debt around our necks

I have a season ticket on Kop and have for many years and the atmosphere seems to get more stale by the year.  Very few games have any sort of atmosphere.

On Saturday I relocated to the South for a game and the place looked and sounded even bleaker.  The Kop was half empty and lack of noise around the ground and could hear the away fans more than anyone.

Appreciate the players need to perform to get the crowd going but as a collective we are very poor and don't exactly make it a fortress.

It's true. A lot of people don't want to hear that though.

Yawn yawn ticket price. So it's the ones who can't or won't pay the ticket prices are the only ones that sing. Those 2k must have some lungs on them, if this is the reason for the lack of noise.

But wouldn't that deny access over the bridge to our fans?

Also isn't the bridge the route to the main reception and office areas?

And I'm sure the werther's brigade would really enjoy the bottles of pi$$ raining down on them.lol

Atmosphere apart - its a pretty poor stadium in this day and age.

I know I may be in the minority but I would love us to move to a clean, modern stadium with top class facilities.

Said for years way to improve atmosphere is give us west upper, great accoustics in there, also great view, put away fans in end blocks of south that never have many in,this area is easily segregated, toilets, bars ,entry/.exit etc.Only problem would be sag

This is also the solution to the whole helpings lane exit issue. Away fans can  be either held back or directed over the bridge

Sometimes we forget and take for granted what we have.

The stadium needs constant renovation, repair and modernisation like any other building. Most of todays problems stem from the fact that no meaningful work had been done for about a quarter of a century.

It also is a stadium that was designed , built and needs  top flight football to thrive.

We need promotion!

But those saying they want  to leave hillsborough need to be careful what they wish for.

Ask West Ham fans
