Westwood is still very much one of the best goalkeepers in the league. A lot of fans have incredibly short memories. I think Dawson is better than that. If he was available for an affordable price pretty much every team in League One would snap our hand off.
matthefish2002
I think Westwood is a bit off form I wouldn't drop him yet but need to cut out the errors in next 3-4 games otherwise would play Dawson. Also needs to quicken his distribution acts like we are 1-0 up in injury time no matter what the state of play. SallyCinnamon
Westwood has cost us two cheap goals today. If that was Dawson, the lad would be getting mullered. Typical Wednesdayites, blind faith to a player who has underperformed this season.
shezzas left peg
I've said before, when it comes to sport there's three key things to remember. 1) sentimentality gets you nowhere. 2) if your not ruthless, your not going to win very often. 3) you can't see clearly when idolisation is allowed clouds your judgement. Westwoods form has been mediocre to terrible at times this season. He's not looked anywhere near the level he used to be at. Have the years, injuries and his age finally begun to catch up on him?? Is he trying too hard as he's got Dawson knocking on the door, as from what I've seen the lad with a settled defence and some leadership in front of him seems to be closing the gap?? There's also this Cheadle fc board tie in he's got himself in, maybe he knows himself the cracks are appearing and his level is beginning to drop and is planning for retirement?? Who knows, but he really hasn't been the Westwood we came to depend on so heavily.

torryowl
Who'd be a goalie ,2 fantastic saves and the main reason we didn't win is down to him .... I'm sure he sets himself very high standards and he'll be just as disappointed as the rest of us that he's struggling to hit them . .. .

He's starting to remind me of that last season we had Glen loovens, very similar in the way its been mainly his decision making where he's been at fault. He's making errors in judgment he wouldn't have made in the past, todays not sweeping up the corner, or when he got sent off charging out into no man's land against reading where he'd usually have just been composed and positioned himself to narrow the angle as small as possible and defended his near post. His distribution has never been a strong point, s pointless mentioning really what we've always known. Worst goalkeeper ever to wear an England shirt. 6 – Chris Woods Woods often found himself the second choice to the brilliant Peter Shilton in his international career, but that didn’t stop him from making a name for himself as a great keeper. He played sporadically for England from his debut in 1985 until 1992, when he was selected to be the first choice keeper at that year’s European Championships. Woods succeeded Shilton despite stiff competition from the promising David Seaman. At the 1992 Euros Woods kept two clean sheets, but despite his strong performances England were unable to score until the final group game, which they lost to Sweden 2-1, knocking them out of the tournament. In Woods’ international career he kept 26 clean sheets, the fifth best of any England keeper, and accumulated 43 caps.

When the mistakes become impossible to ignore then you can be assured that the majority would be calling for him to be dropped too - but don't worry; I'm sure Monk will have dropped him long before we get to that point. Managers never keep faith with gaffe-prone keepers for long.

To be honest, I would be saying my gut instinct is he should be coming to claim the ball prior to it getting to their striker in the first place. I suspect that will either be a very unpopular opinion or clearly wrong when I view it again or both, but that was my instinct at the time. He does that, there's no corner in the first place. Curious to see how far off my instincts are when I see it again

Rushed out against reading and got sent off , just to name a few . It’s not about having short memories or saying he’s never been good . WUGGAMONKEY1
I probably had my beer goggles on, but I thought Westwood was pushed for their 2nd? Their first was down to him, but he made a couple of good stops late on which were important. Good keeper, mixed day for him.

WhiteOwl91
Making mistakes alongside some fantastic saves this season. Of course it’s the errors are being highlighted, that’s natural, but let’s not totally lose the plot. ‘It’s time the defence got more focus though, all the focus on Westwood’s positioning last week, but how’s he won that header from a hopeful punt? How have we ended up in that situation at the end today, from not clearing our lines. Needs to be less about blaming one player and more a collective acceptance we need to do better. Sure all keepers make mistakes every now and then, but not with this sort of regularity. I'd like to know how long you give him to get a grip on this. He's been a brilliant player for us during his time here, but his form this season has been poor. Part of me worries that age is starting to catch up with him. Loovens was great then he became a liability . Wallace was great , then he became ineffective . It happens . They are glaring basics errors that if any other keeper was making , our fans would go ape
