james o connor
Both of them aren’t good enough if we are looking upwards not downwards . Hutchinson back to holding the centre halves hands, and lee whilst the mind is there , the body has long gone . He was nice and tidy on the ball but he can’t influence the game anymore and offered zero creativity

Hutchinson was back to playing as a third centre half, which in turn forced Lee to drop deeper into midfield to try and link play. In the 1st half, Lee had little impact on the game, although he did improve in the 2nd half when he actually began to play to his strengths and exploit the half space (especially on the left hand side). Average player positions from today's game. Hutchinson way too deep, considering our full backs remained very conservative in their advancement forward, and look how deep our No. 10 (No. 5 in reality) had to play because of Hutchinson's half back role. Something's not right, if Pelupessy is your most advanced midfielder! Pelupessy struggled, but our inability to control the game for any period of time today, wasn't helped by Hutchinson and Lee's fairly average displays. Boss it, they certainly did not. Agree entirely with this

NYCOWL
Hutch, Borner and Iorfa would make a great back 3 in a 5 man defense. But we don’t have any wingbacks. So that’s the end of that.

I know he’s a bit of a cult figure, everyone loves his enthusiasm, but I’m not convinced he’s not good enough as a defensive midfielder for a team with ambitions of promotion. That’s not to say he doesn’t have a part to play, but in my opinion he shouldn’t be an automatic pick. Absolutely better in defence whether its on the right or as a man mountain in the centre. Look at his performance against Leeds. The problem we've got was that he was shoe horned in to being a CDM and it worked for a while, and no works every now and then. We've no-one else who can fill in that role so Hutch will always be there unless we buy an Adam Clayton or a Jack Colback or similar. When you have Pessy and Hutch in the middle, your creative outlet is reliant on the centre mid and wide players to create - looking at Fras' posts picture and judging by comments about the game, it seems that our creative players didn't exert enough on the game and their contributions were poor resulting on us playing pretty deep and failing to create much

He is brilliant at the back but he is also brilliant in the CDM role, WHEN we play on the front foot. Hutch and Bannan have similar problems in that they play so deep. Under Bruce when we were trying to be the dominant team in games they both played much higher up and even tho we played a 442 we were able to dominate midfield battles. This was similar first season under CC when it was Hutch and Lee, where they would play high up UNLESS the fullback and bombed which is when Hutch would drop in. Hutchinson is as good as there is in this league as a CDM. If we play right. Problem is he is also as good as there is at CB. We have a good set of CBs at the club (Iorfa Borner - Lees Thorniley) whereas if he doesn't play CM we have Pellupessy. If we were able to sign a Ben Pearson type then yeah id be looking at playing him CB but until then CM and id keep him Captain.
