And there you've  (most likely inadvertently) hit the nail on the head.

What exactly is a "casual football fan in Sheffield" going to do?

Pay over the odds (most matches) for 2nd tier football or pay realistic prices to watch PL football elsewhere in the City?

We'll always have our hard-core of approx 20k fans, but there's plenty of others out there who will choose a cheaper option (as it has been across the City) or who choose to watch better players playing higher level football.

We're currently losing out on both these things and once you've lost em it is difficult to get em back.

All this talk of mass defections to the pigs yet they’ve failed to sell out any of their home games thus far!

D.C. has made us competitive by funding new players I totally get that , I just wish he would see sense and drop the eye watering prices he charges for the casual fan .

not just the part timers that pay through the roof

We have 20 thousand season ticket holders that have paid a lot higher than average prices

if my team wernt around because the piggy council shut us down there is no way in hell id step 1 foot in stain unless its on away end to see them get relegated now that would be an enjoyable day out.  believe it or not some of the pigs have set foot in out ground to watch us get relegated ( was against middlesborough) 5 years ago) they had Sheffield accents and when we scored both our 1st half goals they didn't move and looked p*ssed off ,they left at half time . they have a massive obsession with us.

Lol... dont let facts get in the way of a good story. 20 years out of the top flight, competing against numerous clubs you have had parachute payments. So how would drastically reducing our revenue stream from tickets help....maybe if we all bought a pie at half-time that would pay cannons wage for a week or two.!

Revenue stream ?? Id be interested to know how many tickets we sell who aren't season ticket holders ? Id bet not many.

Lower the price get more in revenue would not be effected much.

We'll they weren't Wednesday fans in the first place then we're they, so no loss.

If they are "casual" fans you've not lost them though have you? and they will come back when it suits them. There has always been a floating fan base of 4/5 thousand fair weather fans who pick and choose when they come.

Too late mate ALL our casual fans have found new toys,You didnt really expect em to twiddle their bits and wait around for a price drop did ya?

I know at least dozen that watch football elswhere these days, take their kids and still have funds to pay the missus,a few others have dropped football alltogether and do stuff with the kids and loveing it,ones got into go karting big style another runs a kids team and got right into coaching youngsters,a fair few go fishing,to a man they all say theyd never set foot in S6 till "Hes Gone" meaning Chansiri.

Or a drop in ticket prices maybe ?

You should price your tickets like air line and hotel room prices

you have so many tickets priced x and if you sell them in time windows depending on how many you sell in that particular window will depending if your prices increase or decrease for the next window it’s how you maximise your sales for the best price and get more bums on seats

why football clubs haven’t taken up this approach is a mystery when you look at half empty stadiums all over the country

I don’t want to come across patronising or anything like that selling tickets, bedrooms seats for me is a specialised area if wanting to achieve best possible sales, revenue but most importantly bottom line profit there is an art to it that needs to be monitored on a daily basis and most hotels with bedrooms over 50 will actually employ a revenue manager for this purpose it’s about finding the break even then squeezing every penny out of the sales as this becomes bottom line profit. Very hard to explain in brief so I’ll attach a link in short Converting the same theory to stadium ticket sales you work on

ASS ( average seat sale )

RevPAS ( revenue per available seat )

GoPAS (gross profit per available seat )

all are good measures to drive and monitor the performance ultimately it comes down to GoPAS

happy to answer any questions on this

Be as condescending as you like pal

I’m interested how it would work at football.

Do a basic example if you get chance, it would be much appreciated.

I’m not convinced hotel rooms/flights pricing can be transferred to football tickets

If we got promoted...do we think all our games would be £20 a match?

There is a £30 cap on away ticket prices in the PL, not sure about home games. With a base rate of £100m for TV plus £1.3m addition per televised game, home ticket prices would most likely drop.
