james o connor
Shall we just enjoy his good form before getting a tiny bit carried away. There were plenty on here touting Tom lees as an England player a few years ago. Iorfa is quality for us , but he’s a miles off.
Wednesday_Jack
Sod it let’s go the full mile....fox should be in there as well!!! He’s better than chillwell and rose. He’s out most improved player, surely he should be on the verge of a call up?
runningaround
18 hours ago, Salmonbones said: Continue this form over a season, then who knows - stranger things have happened. He clearly prefers to play at CB and that's where he seems to play better for us, so i'd probably advocate him staying there - but I won't get ahead of myself. If he progresses, maintains form etc, all the better for Wednesday no matter what level he attains ultimately for himself. I do wonder if he may be pushed a little further forward once we are back at full strength in the CB position though, he has energy to burn and would be a better option in that position when Hutchinson isn't in contention to Pelupessy. have to agree sounds a bit mad but reminds me a little of Yaya Toure how he strides and eats up ground in front of him. Maybe worth him and Hutch swapping positions
Stoop
It might sounds daft now but it could happen Harry Maguire was sat on the bench in the championship with Hull in 2016. 2 years later he’s scoring for England in the World Cup
mcmigo
He is an excellent player but way off international standard currently. Standing up to the likes of Patrick Banford is a world away from having Mbappe running at you or a shthouse like Diego Costa roughing you up. no doubting his potential though. He is massive , quick and has a great engine for a centre back. I will be amazed if he isn’t playing in the premier league this time next year. Emerson Thome
Think this is a bit premature, but I'm slightly worried that if his form carries on that some Premier League club in trouble in January will come calling with a big offer. Need to hope we're in the top two in January to make the likes of say, Watford, less appealing.

But he had the potential. Smalling wasn't good enough for England when he played for Fulham. But he had potential and developed into an England player, albeit the alternatives were poor. Ditto Ferdinand at West Ham, Mings at Ipswich, even whilst at Bournemouth. Etc. Ditto for Iorfa. Not good enough for England just now, but with the crap alternatives and 18 months improvement, especially with a move to he premier league, he might well be. To quote Ferdinand's name in the same thread shows how wide of the mark you are. Iorfa has had a Put in some strong performances. So has Borner. And Harris. None of them will be breaking into their respective national squads. We have 3 players who play for Scotland. That's the level we're currently at. That's the level we're currently at. ...currently at. I haven't said Iorfa for England NOW. I've suggested (note the question mark in the subject header) and argued that maybe in 18 months it'll be different. Harris is a decent player at this level, but he's reached his peak. Indeed, his performances for us have levelled of. Borner is consistent quality, but he's not going to get better. And he doesn't have Mings and Keane in his way of becoming an international. Anyhow, Borner, Harris, the Scots lads are irrelevant. The discussion is Iorfa. Only a few weeks ago, I was doubtful about Iorfa, but he's cutting out the mistakes and putting in consistent dominant performances. He's winning me over. So, I repeat the questions I placed earlier: Do you think, with continued improvement, that Iorfa could reasonably get a chance in the EPL next season? Do you think the gap between Iorfa and Mings/Keane/Stones is bridgable by 6 months experience in the top league? And I'll add another one: Are there any current English central defenders the quality of Ferdinand, Terry etc that would block the path of Iorfa (or any other half decent up and coming centre half) from getting an international call up? I'll answer the questions for you: yes, yes, no. I acknowledge that there are some "if, buts and maybes", ...continued improvement with us ...a move to the Prem (with or without us) ...further development with experience in the top league against top forwards. ...the continued absense of quality English centre backs. ...staying injury free. but none of these are fanciful scenarios. It's not beyond logic to think that in 18 months Iorfa could be being considered for a call up.

Musn't Grumble
A bit too early in the week to discuss international honour for the lad but those overlapping centre half runs he made in the second half of Saturday's match may well have W***er spitting out his tea and choking on his malted milk biscuit!

tarn owl
I am confused, is the point of the thread for good or bad??? Iorfa is doing well? yes. if we can sell him for a fortune? yes do it. will he play for england? i don't know and don't care much about England as they just interrupt proper football. Does this clear anything up, no.

Spookone
I remember certain fans on here laughing and stating Maguire was no where near good enough to play for us and had a larger turning circle than a barge. Iorfa looks to be good player at this level, which also means he has the potential to play at a higher level. Depends how much they offer, when good money comes in for a player we need to accept and re-build other areas of the team. We have a lot of central defenders and only 1 consistent striker. Rogerwyldesmullet
On a forum that had JVA as the new Rudi Krol and Mark Beevers as the next Franz Beckenbaur I’ve been a bit burnt by this kind of optimism. What I will concede is that his mobility could make him our new version of Carlton Palmer whom I rate as one of our most impressive performers in the 90s and who (contrary to southern media prejudice) fully deserved his England place at that time as midfield minder/ man marker. Palmer was much more than a man marker - in fact I don't think that was his forte at all. He was your basic box to box i'm going to own this midfield kind of player, if you want to play football in my area you are going to have to be better than me. He tackled well for a gangly lad and went forward with such awkward ease
