Best freebie

With the performances of Harris, and now probably more so, Borner, I was thinking these might be two of the best free transfers for many a year.

Anyone think of anyone else from our past? Westwood as also a free wasn't he, as was Fletch, however, you could counter the arguement as I think they are both a high wages.

So, best value free?

Loovens. Joined us during a relegation battle in December when he’d been without a club and only signed a short term deal. Had very low expectations when he signed. Went on to captain us for 4 years and played a big part in 2 play off campaigns.

Wow. Didn't realise he was with us for 4 years. Great signing.

Over the years we have always picked up some great free agents, Kieren Lee, Kieren Westwood, Tom Lees, Barry Bannan, Glenn Loovens, Jose Semedo, Sam Hutchinson, Ross Wallace.

Further back players such as Glenn Whelan, Chris Brunt, Chris Kirkland, Miguel Liera.

We over the last 20 odd years have made some great free agent signings and good loan signing. It kind of shows what a farce the club was run like when we have wasted so much money on recruiting players on big fees when the core of the team for the last 4 or 5 season has been free agents or players from the youth set up.

Take the last match Dawson (youth), Fox (small fee), Borner (free), Iorfa (£500k), Palmer (youth), Harris (free), Bannan (free), Hutch (free), Luongo (£1m), Reach (£5m), Fletcher (free) - 7 of the 11 free agents or youth players.

Going forward for me as a team we trade in free agents, good loans and developing our youth team. If players such as Luongo come up for a decent price then bring them in but no more silly fees for players who barely play a game.
