Popular Post Lord Snooty
WEDNESDAY - V - EVERTON League Cup 3rd Round Tuesday 24th September 19:45 kick off Hillsborough Stadium ======================================================================== EVERTON I did wonder if Everton might put out a weakened side filled with U23's as so many of the Premier League teams seem to do these days in this competition. However it seems Marco Silva isn't one for doing that given the respect he showed to Lincoln in the last round putting out a team with an impressive 240 International caps between them at Sincil Bank in round two... And they still needed two goals in the last 9 minutes to edge past a side who have just been spanked 6-0 at home by Oxford United. There's every chance they'll take it as seriously again. Especially given their league form where they have lost 3 out of the last 4 games against Bournemouth, The Blunts and Villa. Teams that, on paper at least, they'd have fancied getting something against. They will be wanting a win, any win, to try and act as a catalyst for a decent run of form. Something to kick them on. I don't want to be one of those eggs who tempts fate or anything. But... I don't think we've anything to fear really. The pressure is all on them. As The Monk said last night, this really is a free hit for us. Which of our players will be out there getting that free hit though? WEDNESDAY The League remains our priority. Monk thinks we should be looking up towards the top ten. The Chairman thinks we should be looking top two! Either way it would be - despite the importance of building up momentum- a huge surprise to me to see our (so far) seasons star men Kadeem Harris or Steven Fletcher start the game. They will surely be rested? With Monk having so little time to really get to know the players personally having had no pre-season with them he's got plenty he will probably want to see in match action. The training ground is one thing, but really you want to see players out there on the park to know what they're really about. Fox, Thorniley, Pelupessy, Luongo, Bates , Nuhiu and Winnall must all surely be in contention? The Monk is certainly giving nothing away when asked though... It could just as easily be 1 changes as 11 changes from what he's given away there! Cards close to his chest indeed. Personally I'd like to see Luongo and Lee get some game time. Get themselves up to speed. Lee was a long time out of the game, and whilst a solid pre-season is a decent foundation for the old fitness , to really see the best of the lad you need minutes of match action under your belt. Equally our summer signing from QPR didn't get much pre-season prep and might be needing a bit of game time in the legs to help him kickstart his season. A game like this might well be the perfect setting. I think we're all itching to see what the lad can do. I'm pretty sure Murphy will get a slot and be given the opportunity to try and find himself a little bit of form. UP front it has to be Winnall and Nuhiu doesn't it? Our recent super subs and goalscorers. Which one? Sod it. I'd be tempted to play them as a pair. It's a no pressure game. Blimey, what a handful they might be too. At the back Iorfa has grown into the team recently with two impressive displays at centre half (Though somehow, like Madjid Bougherra and Paul Warhurst before him, there's always that little bit of me that bricks it when they get that casual look in their eyes!) Borner has carried on with his cool assurance and has the air of a man who has played here for years. Indeed Borner would be many peoples shout of the player of the year for the opening quarter. He's a tough as teak old school defender who seemed to relish his battle with Mitrovich on Saturday. Should he be saved for the League campiagn? We have Bates to look at and at 6"4 and being just 22. Monk might be keen to see what the Jock can do. And what of Thorniley. Never let us down and has that natural left peg. It's his boyhood club too isn't it. Maybe I'm an old football romantic. But wouldn't you be half tempted to stick the boy in. Give him the armband? (The leaders will lead anyway without the band on their arm) but I think it might just really boost the lad. Genuinely. Last minute header against his boyhood club to seal out passage to round 4? Why not. That's what football is all about isn't it? Those little stories. I'd love to see us get our hands on this 3 handled beauty again! Lets get these lot out of the way and see where we can go! COME ON WEDNESDAY! 24

striker
It's a free hit, expect some changes and rightly so IMO. They are fragile mentally at the moment, if we get the first goal...who knows?

Ethel The Tree
Everton are at home to ManC at the weekend You think they'll rest players ahead of that game? I doubt it Silva's job prospects might hinge more on tonight's result So I reckon he'll have 'em fired up And we'll need to field a really strong side to get past them

I accept the sentiment and I was there in 1991, but in reality it isn't going to happen. I have no expectations of the team, just want them to go and do their best and be competitive in a good game. Cup shocks happen and hope were on the right end of one.
Lord Snooty
I'm a bit of a softy at heart. I'd love to see the lad get a run against the boyhood club. Family in the stands and what not.
Lombardo
yes - changes to the starting 11 will ben numerous. These guys have something to prove to GM so we can certainly give them a good game and maybe get a win.
