Popular Post Lord Snooty
"Tell you what Stubbs, I do like this Monk chap. Like the cut of his Jib" "Hang on Sir, it's not a week since you described him as ,and I quote, 'A beady eyed bloke with a cruel mouth and probably a spiv too given he's a southerner'" "Well admittedly I wasn't full of the joys, but the mans done a decent job wherever he's been" "You said, and sorry to bring this up ,Sir 'He can't be that good, he's been given the boot 4 times in 4 years" "As I said Stubbs, I may have been a bit hasty, jumped the gun a bit before I'd looked into the full facts about his stints at those clubs. I mean, it's easy to forget the lunatic he worked for at L**ds, and the fact he was having to make a silk purse out of Jaques Maghomas ear." "You accused one poor soul of badly reading the rune stones when he suggested Monk might be decent manager!" "Ok Stubbs, ok, wind your neck in, wind your neck in. I mean I wasn't the only one,was I? Besides, I'd had a bit of an episode." "An episode? Really.." "Yes, bloody really! International break isn't it, drives us all bloody doolally. I mean to say, I lost 3 solid days with no food, no sleep , no nothing in a phantom-blackhole-thread" "A phantom blackhole thread?" "Yes, it's that Hargreaves. He throws a couple in every season. Usually in the International breaks funnily enough. Secret threads with a worm-hole that you can't escape from. He does it to keep the more owlstalk readers moving in slow times." "Really..." "Oh yes. Have a look through the history of Owlstalk. There's loads of them. Usually threads based in no reality. George Hirst. 90 pages of absolute cobblers. Adam Le Fondre. And we're all at it. Flailing away in there talking nonsense. It's an entire alternative Universe. But it all seems real at the time. Blackhole threads. I mean Cowley was never coming here. But you can't see it when you're in that thread. It all seems so real. Only when you escape you see the truth!" "Hmmm. You seemed convinced." "Of course I did. That's how those threads get you. Haven't you seen the Matrix? Alternative online reality." " If you say so, Sir. If you say so. Though it sounds like a bit of backtracking to me" "Well you can call it what you want Stubbs, but I know the truth. Some say that's where Big Guns is. And JTO66. Trapped in a Ben Marshall blackhole thread. Never to reappear!" "So now you've 'escaped' you think Monk is the best thing since sliced bread?" "No. I'm not getting carried away. I've looked into it and he's done a decent job in the circumstances at all the clubs he's been at. That's all. I'm just being measured and going on the facts." "So you're definitely not getting carried away just because of how well he spoke at his press conference? Not going to make any outrageous bets based on little more than a hunch?" "Not at all, Stubbs. Not at all. It's all very early days. no one should be making any bold predictions at this stage. I certainly won't be 'lumping on'" "Very good,Sir. I'm pleased. Those sorts of things do have a habit of coming back to bite you on the arris." "That said..." "Yes ,Sir?" "Weigh anchor Stubbsy, Monk is taking us to the very top. Woo-hooo!!!" "Here we go again. FFS! " Huddersfield - V - Wednesday Sunday 15th September, 2019 12:00 The John Smith's Stadium Cowley Versus Monk! Well, it isn't really is it. It's Huddersfield versus Sheffield Wednesday. But the press and no doubt some supporters will make it about the battle between to two men, who if rumours are to be believed were both courted by either club. It makes it interesting of course, as a bit of flavour to the affair. But in all honesty both Wednesday fans and Huddersfield fans for that matter would be crackers to to deciding if they had got the right man based on the result of this one game. Especially since both men have had bugger all time to work with their players, despite it being the International break. So what of Monk. How's he settled in? There were some shots from the training ground. Players looking off into the mid distance, hands on hips. Wistful. Frankly anyone worrying about that shouldn't waste their time. Anyone who's ever taken a training session with a group of players that doesn't involve leathering the ball past the keeper will know that is the standard look! Who will he pick? Who knows. It's all guess work. Same could be said of Cowley, though we do know that he likes a decent sized unit up top. Monk said in the press he was used to working with a small squad at Birmingham and so the team almost picked itself. A squad out size is giving him a bit of a quandary already. So it will be interesting to see if he goes with the 4-4-2 he's used latterly in his career or the 4-3-3 he tended to employ earlier. Whatever team he picks I think one thing is for the sure the lads will go out their busting a gut trying to impress him, and in these tentative early steps in his Wednesday career that can only be a good thing. THE TEAM NEWS HUDDERSFIELD Predicted line-up (4-2-3-1): Grabara; Hadergjonaj, Schindler, Kongolo, Brown; Chalobah, Hogg; Diakhaby, Pritchard, Kachunga; Grant Unavailable: Doubtful: SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY Predicted line-up (4-4-1-1): Westwood; Palmer, Iorfa, Borner, Fox; Reach, Hutchinson, Bannan, Harris; Murphy; Fletcher Unavailable: Forestieri (Suspended), Wildsmith (Injured), Doubtful: Lees (Injured) COME ON WEDNESDAY 37 4

I think he can and I'm backing us for an away win 0 v 2.

Neon Nick
Huddersfield. I just hope that Monk instructs the Players to attack, no quarter given, none expected.

areNOTwhatTHEYseem
Some of the comments about our new manager being a 'spiv' or a 'shyster' etc. have been pretty unsavoury, and certainly don't bear much scrutiny. Fair play to @Lord Snooty for acknowledging your role in it, though. I don't know what Monk had done to create such ill-feeling towards him, or whether it was the result of a bit of thoughtless bandwagon-jumping because everybody seemed to have convinced each other that Danny Cowley is destined to be the second coming of Ferguson, Paisley and Ramsey rolled into one. Whatever the reason, let's hope he makes those kind of comments ring hollow during his time with Wednesday, as he's certainly got the potential to be the ideal replacement for Bruce: he's an experienced manager at this level and above; his teams tend to be more than the sum of their parts; he can play attractive attacking football, given the right tools; he may well feel he has something to prove after suffering at least one, if not two, harsh sackings in recent years; and at the age of 40, he's still got years of learning and developing ahead of him. It's always a hard one to predict when a new manager takes the reins, so to have fresh faces in each dugout makes today's game incredibly difficult to call. I just hope we see a Wednesday team that has a clear structure, a plan of attack, and 100% commitment to the cause today. Hopefully we can put the incoherence of recent games behind us.
