Realistically, you would release most of them.

A rebuild is long over due.

Agree.

Very early to be making decisions,  but the squad needs freshening up. We're not very good at selling players, so the only opportunity to do this is at contract expiry. Expect another purge like this  last summer.

Who do you think impacts a game more than Nuhiu in our current squad off the bench?

Yeah you're right, let's always keep Nuhiu so he can come on and change all these games I keep hearing about and see us safely to midtable every season.

Some of us have higher ambition than that though.

Nuhiu and many others on that list won't ever be good enough or consistent enough to get us promoted, if we want to be successful we have to be ruthless and stop being so sentimental all the time to these players who have got us nowhere. Harsh reality but true.

Why are people so scared of change?

Think the club should have an idea who they would like to move on and who they would like to keep.
But like others have said a lot depends how they play this season and final decisions made in the new year.
Think players like Fletcher, Hutchinson and FF have had good games for us in the past but will have to play really well to think about offering them another contract.

but it does need addressing …...what happens if Rhodes or FF suddenly hit form and start scoring for fun , 2 players who cost us north of 10 million in transfer fees and probably the same in wages could walk for free …...buying players for big fees with  fat contracts then letting them run down is a risky business .

Its been over 2 years since either of them have contributed anything at all. You can’t keep a squad of players on “what ifs”. We must have been paying at least 100k a week over the past few years on players doing absolutely nothing.

Most successful teams have cycles of 3 - 4 years tops.

You have to freshen things up, move a few on, bring in a few.

We kind of did that this summer, but I'm increasingly of the view that we need to do more.

There's no disputing the talent of quite a few in our squad, the problem is they are a few years older and have been together for quite a while now.

Hopefully, Monk can come in and add something new to their game. Part of the problem with Bully is it seemed for whatever reason that some players went back into bad old habits following a positive start.

From a high press, high tempo performance against Reading, Barnsley etc., to the passive, directionless dross they had been serving up for much of the last two years (bar when Bruce came in).

Who doesn’t want to improve our squad?

If the question was “with money no object should we replace these 10 players with upgrades?” we all say yes please.

If, more likely, the question is “which of these players aren’t giving us value for money?” then Nuhiu, Hutch, Fox, Lee are keepers.

Maybe offer FF and Hutchinson one, even if it's just to sell for a bit of cash the following season.

Nobody will pay anything for someone who has already retired from football once and has known injury problems. The other one is someone whose on mega money for the division and only plays 3 games a season.

Well, I'd argue none of them are giving us value for money, as we're still lingering around in the championship.

The money/wages spent on those players could be going to brand new players that could get us where we want to be, we'll never though, if we're obsessed with hanging onto players that have failed to get us up, and I'd bet will continue to fail. Definition of insanity and all that..

This squad needs freshening up massively.

That's not the full argument though is it.

Lingering around the Championship is not as good as getting promoted to the Premier League, but it's significantly better than getting relegated to League 1.  And the "brand new players" could end up being worse than the ones we've let go (our track record of recruitment over the past 3-4 years is a little shaky).

Failing to get us up isn't the only aspect of this, and there are obvious FFP ramifications for every player recruitment or contract renewal situation.  Some of the players on that list will provide us with potentially more value than we could obtain through replacement.
