He has been at the club an age, loves the club But is he hindering the management structure.

When Carlos came in it was agreed he would have an British coach we looked at a guy from Swindon at the time and ended up with Bullen. Then each time a manager has departed, bullen has looked after us till the new man arrives then remains part of the coaching set up.

The Bruce team was the first time for 4 years that we had a manager with his own coaches and a different way of doing things and the team improved and thrived.

Now Monk comes in and once again the chairman says Bullen will be part of the coaching staff.

Is this hindering the new man from putting his stamp on the team, is it because bullen is DC eyes and ears in the team.

Or is it simple the club rewarding a good servant to the team with some continuity in the coaching structure. I cannot think of another team where this happens though.

Complete idiot

I've no qualms over Bullen staying involved. He's become part of the furniture, and helps smooth transition whenever we need to make a change. Knowing the club and players inside out makes him useful to managers past, present, and future.

Richie Barker worked with Big Ron throughout his time here, may even have been here before.

Pretty sure Peter Eustace was Wilkinson’s ‘assistant manager’ for 5 years before that in fact.

Ian St John and Maurice Setters were Big Jack's assistant managers.

Fair enough if Monk wants to keep Bullen on in some capacity but Monk has to be allowed to bring his own people in as well. Would be wrong for DC to insist Bullen has to be on the coaching staff if Monk doesn’t want him. Hopefully it’s a long way off but no doubt Bullen will be caretaker once again if and when Monk does leave. Surely 3 cracks at it and still being deemed not good enough is plenty.

Bullen's role with CC and Jos was to advise them on niceties of Championship football and to ease introduction to English game. With Bruce think passed on what he knew about players. I suspect he just blends in.

Regarding his value to club I thought it was a motivational one although last few performances have made me question this. Our Academy has outperformed how it is resources in last few years and as a result two of our coaches have been poached by Manchester City. If Bullen had shown real ability he would have been pursued by other clubs either as coach or manager. To my knowledge can not remember him being associated with any job this indicates he has not come to attention of anyone through his abilities as a coach.

I do not think Monk would tolerate him for long if he proved an obstruction. I do expect someone to be brought to club to help Monk but no idea who this could be.

You need many coaches.

Goalkeeping coaches.

Fitness coaches.

Bullen could fill in as a defensive coach or one of many other roles that don't impact on team selection and style of play.

Don't forget the team coach.  Without it you'd get nowhere.

But true.

How is it true ?

Remind me how many club offers has bullen knocked back to stay at Wednesday ?

The day he goes  he'll be selling houses again

He should be thanking the club not the other way round

Nothing wrong with Bullen being the guy who connects the manager and hopefully also his staff with the club. I'm sure he is still a good coach.

I've heard no one ever say bullen is a good coach,  he's there for stability which I'm ok with but no way is he a coach,  I dont think he even has any badges , we are being run terribly atm

What happened when Bruce came with two of his own guys? When he left they went with, leaving massive gaps in the coaching staff.

Bullen allows for stability

Stability in doing the wrong things.  The usual suspects on the teamsheet, the usual tactics.

With the older guard on last legs, we desperately need a fresh set of eyes and ideas.

'A fresh set of eyes', Like employing a new Manager above Bullen, who the main man in charge and tells him what to do????, yeah that's an idea, if only......

Garry Monk has worked at 3 clubs with Pep Clotet who is currently caretaker manager at Birmingham. Many fans say Monk is much better with Clotet but Birmingham have made a better start than us with him so who knows. He also worked with Lee Camp who Birmingham fans don't want to lose.
