Popular Post Lord Snooty
Been an interesting week. We sealed passage to the next round of the cup by making 9 changes to the starting line up against Rotherhams first XI. Yes, they're lower down the leagues but with some of these lads having had barely any game time, and in Luongos case barely a pre-season. It was always going to be a tough game against a side that has been playing regularly and know what they are all about. It wasn't pretty. There was a lot of running about. Getting a foot in and tussling and we got over the line in the end. It meant a debut for Bates and a start for Luongo and it was a chance to give the forwards a run out. Nuhiu popping up with a dramatic last minute winner, despite being held in a full head-lock by the Rotherham centre-half. It might have been scruffy, but they all count, and infact I was actually pleased to see us score a scruffy one. It's something we haven't really done enough of in recent years. Our reliance on worldies has got us out of jail more times we'd like via the boots, of Reach -especially last season- and Forestieri and even Wallace before that. It's an old cliche in football that a team doesn't score enough scruffy goals and there is truth in that. Over the course of a season that can haunt a side. Nice to see us put another team on the receiving end of the sort of frustrating goal which we seem to be victim too so many times ourselves. Despite a decent start to the league season and safe passage to the next round of the Cup there seems to be some uncertainty in the support. A lingering feeling that some can't seem to shake off. It's an odd one this uncertainty because having gained similar results under Bruce we'd probably be happier. We'd probably think there were just some little tweaks need making. That there were some positive signs. As it is the uncertainty seems to be making us focus on the things that aren't so good. I'm not sure I can remember a mood as odd as this, as split as this, after a decent points haul start in a long time. Which is odd really with this being our best start in four years results wise. Of course things could be better, things can always be better and it's something the caretaker manager has said himself several times. His honesty , which is quite refreshing and would usually hit the target with a no-nonsense Northern fanbase who don't have much time for listening to flannel, still doesn't seem to be able (same as the winning results) to be able to lift the melancholy mood online and in the stands. We welcome QPR, and despite having 4 wins out of 6 and having won both our home games , there lurks this underlying feeling that under a "Proper" manager things would be better. That seems to be what we're telling ourselves. Whether they would be or not, like future lottery results, can't actually be known, and there is still some open debate about what a "proper" manager actually is! The only thing anyone can agree is that a proper manager is someone with more experience. The shortlist however seems to suggest that might mean people with experience ... of being sacked, which is afterall the only certainty in football! Why we hold such comfort in getting one wouldn't make sense to anyone outside football if you tried to explain it to them. It wouldn't would it? I used to have a manager who had been ex-army and he was a huge fan of telling us that "Lads need discipline and they like being told what to do". A routine. Stability! I think there is some of that in the fanbase. That we'd somehow settle down and enjoy the results we've got more if we knew for certain who the manager was , even if nothing on the pitch changed. There'd be a change in feeling in people if they just knew something was in place. Because somehow, something like that brings a comfort and a certainty. No matter how crackers it might sound to someone you might explain it too who doesn't follow football-: "So,let me get this straight, you're telling me a scrappy 1-0 win is more enjoyable because you definitely know the manager is the manager?" "Yes. That's right. Well..... for a short while at least until the new man starts losing games!" The debate will rage on... and sadly, no matter how many wins we might chalk up...they just aren't being enjoyed to the maximum by a proportion of the fanbase. Which is sad really as if you can't enjoy a win then there's no where really left to go is there...and if a win leaves you gloomy and worried then draws and defeats are going to be hellish!! We might not all agree. We might row about the rights and wrongs of it. But for the 90 minutes, lets put that all the the back of our minds. Get behind the lads and help them get a result. We've played two and won two at home. Let's help them make Hillsborough a horrible place to go for the other teams and a great environment for our lads to play in. We can whittle about managers in our own time but that 90 lets get behind the lads. And lets try and enjoy it. Saturday is football, and there to be enjoyed for what it is, there's somefolks tomorrow waking up with club to go an watch in this ever changing football landscape. ========================= 3:00pm Saturday 31st August Hillsborough What was the score when the teams last met? edmontonowl
A rather sombre OMDT opening post,I must say, although the appearance of Ron and Rowley is a treat We'll find a way to win That's my analysis anyway
Lord Snooty
I really, really need to stop doing these so late and to get myself a spellchecker! I read through after I've finished typing and see no grammar, spelling or other issues. Soon as i click submit all the errors start flashing before my eyes. I mean. "Too" instead of "to" FFS. More than once aswell! Arghhhh! 2

Jim Wonk
Don’t think I could put that out at 1am... I have to go back at least 10 times on a short post like this! i think it’s a fine job but if it is subdued then it matches the mood in the Fanbase at this time as you say... i honestly think if we won tomorrow and then Bullen was made permanent for instance during the international break, then the mood would change to a more positive one...dunno maybe?? Am I wrong?? Too late I’m not deleting all that now

Mind, I came across this tonight... “Man-management is probably more important than coaching and, if you like the guy you are working for, a personality thats engaging and open then you’ve got half a chance of being successful." Rev Owl
Thanks MiLord. I do think that you are correct about the uncertainty and I think it's true that it surrounds LBs lack of experience. However back to the 90 minutes tomorrow. Having listened to two frustrating games on the wireless I'm looking forward to seeing the boys in action live at Hillsborough. I'm feeling optimistic about this one. Head 1-0, Heart 3-0. UTO

Gresh
These are the types of games that we should be winning. I'm going for a comfortable 2 v 0 win with Fletcher and Harris scoring.

nevthelodgemoorowl
QPR so my thoughts are of the Springett bros and Rons daughter Sussie who worked me a free pass for the time our family lived and worked in London W10. Must say that Loftus Rd competed well with Kensal Rise graveyard for atmosphere but the R's fans though quiet are a decent bunch. Always held our own reasonably well against the R's other than that night in the early 60's League cup encounter when they destroyed us by 8-2. Come on Wednesday. sMacLean
Must take 3 points from these type of games. Be nice to do it comfortably for once but probably won't as per.
