But I'm not the owner of the football club am I. I don't understand the finances and ffp do I.

As a supporter you can only trust that the people running the club and spending the money know what they are doing and are spending wisely

He gambled on getting us up like other clubs have done it didn’t work , I won’t knock him for trying though . I would prefer to build a team and be in control of spending but that can take years and not always a guarantee of success anyway . It looks like more thought is going into the playing staff this season .

It's very sad to see Bolton n Bury suffer, was very surprised at the gate on Saturday about 5000ish with 700 from Ipswich, thought the fans would have turned out regardless of the politics of the club.

Hope they both find a way through the mire, doesn't look good for either.

Yeah and more than 150,000 rocked up for the 1923 Cup Final where the Official attendance was 123,000 v West Ham United.

For those who have criticized the amount of money spent and lack of top quality signings take a look 35 miles west of Sheffield. Bolton a once proud footballing town are on the verge of losing their football team. For all who criticize DC I would say he has heeded the warnings and stopped the club falling headlong into the financial abyss. It gives me no pleasure to see Bolton Wanderers on the verge of liquidation but I would hate the gap it would leave in my life if this great club followed the same path. Dark times in the EFL as the fat cats in the premier league gorge on massive financial gains not shared with the lower leagues.

totally agree with everything apart from Bolton is not 35 miles west of Sheffield its nearly double that. shame we cant use stronger language regards the efl and fa its all wrong

Don’t think we should be drawing any parallels between Bolton and ourselves. The situation they are in is a complex one and brought on by mis-management over the last 10-12 years.

Very sad however that a very proud footballing town could lose their league status.

We weren’t a million miles off a similar position through exactly the same reason. Milan saved us remember

Bolton to Hillsborough is 52 miles.

Maybe the much criticised P&S /FFP rules have stopped us getting as bad as Bolton? Although doubt we would have got that bad.

I’m not sure it was as serious. That was us going into potential administration and a 10 point deduction. Bolton are facing liquidation and loss of their league status. Even though we were in a right old mess I don’t think it was a parallel with where Bolton currently are. Then again who knows how it might have escalated at Hillsborough if Milan hadn’t come in. I suspect the situation at Bolton is far worse hence no firm interest from parties in buying them.

People have been saying for years about a big club going to the wall to give football a wake up call. There have been many that threatened to (including our own) but there’s always been someone to come along to the rescue.

Yes the likes of Rushden have gone under but Bolton and Bury are established clubs who have won trophies and in Bolton’s case been in Europe in recent years. Them going would be a stark warning to any team outside the big 6 in the premier league.

It’s not looking good for either club but fingers crossed something is pulled out of the bag.

But it wont give football a wake up call. Football is rotten to the core , infested with greedy agents and players . The tail is wagging the dog . You have clubs up and down the land crippling themselves with debt chasing the golden tickets of the Premier league , where even failure is rewarded with obscene amounts of money. I just wish the big prem clubs would sod off and join a European super league, and take Sky and their money with them , then maybe football can hit the reset button and just maybe common sense will prevail once again , and the game can maybe stand a chance of returning to what it should be about ........... FOOTBALL , not money.

When premier league clubs see it as more important to finish FORTH in the league , than actually win a cup competition , that tells you everything you need to know. It breaks my heart to see the game i love disappearing up its own arse.

We were involved in a winding up order weren't we ? , owed HMRC over a million pounds , even now we are losing money . I know Bolton and especially Bury are further down the line than we got but we were heading that way .

I shouldn't imagine the future is rosy for either club if they get taken over... at this stage there a 1/100 chance of a genuine owner coming in and 99/100 chance they'll get a vulture who specialises in this sort of thing, irrespective of the industry, and is only really in it to make a bit of money.

The biggest issue, for me, is how Club's are financed.

These wealthy owners, don't spend money on their Club - they loan money to their Club!

Big difference.

They "purchase" their Club's assets etc, they find ways to ensure they get something back.

If I bought the local Corner Shop, spent a few grand doing it up, and it failed miserably... it'd be my loss. My gamble (investment) didn't pay off. I backed myself and my ideas and lost. You could recoup as much as possible, selling the business, but it's only worth what it's worth.

In football, people run their Club's to failure, then try to get the money they lost back!

Hence FFP etc

It's ridiculous.

If you put money into your own Company and lose it, it should be your loss. Not the Club's, not the next buyer's... Your's.

You spent it, you decided where it went, you lost it.

This is what needs looking at, not how much goes in, but how it goes in.
