Fox to Sunderland

Recommended Posts

I wonder if they asked Loovens about him?

"What's he like Glenn?"

"Great lad. Never misses training, never injured, always gives 100%, always available, can play left centre half too. Gets on with the job, doesn't get the sulks, doesn't steal a living sat in the sick bay for years on end, keeps himself fit, he's on cheap wages,  doesn't go on strike, and despite not being a natural attacker he's got a half decent cross on him, and is capable of match winning blocks. He's been in the top two for their man of the match votes in his two starts this year. "

"Don't think they'll sell him then!?"

"Oh course they will, fans f*cking hate him"

Just watched the interview with Fox, post Preston, on the SWFC YouTube channel. The lad didn’t seem very comfortable with the questioning especially when the interviewer specifically asked how he felt about being booed by his own fans. I felt sorry for the lad and really don’t get why you’d want to boo your own player, unless it was obvious they didn’t give a throw about wearing the shirt.  Maybe Fox isn’t good enough, but the boo boys are only going to destroy his confidence more.

With respect to whether we should sell him it might make sense if the player wants to go and there’s a transfer fee to be had. I appreciate it leaves us a little short on full backs, but perhaps it’s for the best if he wants away?

Following on from that I hope our fans aren’t going to shift their vitriol onto Odubajo now. If they do it will make it much harder for him to move on from yesterday’s errors.

Maybe he wants to go.... that would change things

I expected us to move Fox on over the summer, but mainly because I also expected us to sign another left back, too.

That we failed to do the latter means we can't afford to do the former.

He's a solid enough squad player at this level, and we've already had to rely on him in our last few league games.

I wouldn’t sell him, but it’s telling when a first team left back would entertain the idea of dropping down a division.

Sick of the abuse from the fat baldies in the stands who probably can’t see their own c0ck

We should sell. The lad can defend but with the ball he’s a league 1 player at best. Given all the unnecessary abuse he has got, I’m sure he will also want the move. I think it will be a good move all round.

We have Iorfa, Odubajo and Palmer to cover full back. We also have other players that can cover in this position at a push.

Can we recall Penney? I know that it’s not possible to recall a player who’s gone on loan to another English club until January (if there’s a recall clause) but not sure if the same rules apply for an English player going to a foreign club

Can't get him back until January.

Mind, he's already been written  off by many because he's not made 500 league appearances before he's 21.

Think Fox would probably be more suited to L1 and Sunderland the biggest club down there. Given his personal situation here I can't blame him for wanting to go but why didn't this offer come in last month when we could have found a replacement? Unless the offer is at least 350k I'd say no.

Cheers m’lud. These new transfer window dates are a bit of a boIlocks aren’t they? PL and Championship teams are definitely at a disadvantage... I can see the reasoning behind the window closing before the first game of the season but it only really makes sense if it’s the same for all clubs in England and Europe.

As it is, we’re stuck between a rock and a hard place — sell our only specialist LB who’s out of contract in summer for an actual transfer fee and try to muddle through til January, or keep hold of him and lose out on the money, which may or may not impact on future FFP nonsense
