Club Statement

Has Sheffield ever embraced football? I’m 36 and I can’t really remember the last time it really did anything for the sport. Despite the fact the city is part of the fabric of the game.  Ok, they’ve done the usual parades if one of the teams win something, and they hosted the 96 euros here, but what else do they really do any other time to help any of the clubs here or it’s fans?

Even during the world cup the big screen for the England game was all a bit last minute, probably because they felt obliged given other big cities were doing similar.

Whether it’s promoting football and the history of it in Sheffield, or other matters such as parking, and transport.

Its time they started doing more for football, and perhaps worked with the clubs rather against them.

Agree mate, but it goes deeper than football.

This city is 20 years in development terms behind Manchester and similar with Leeds. This is solely down to the half wits that have run it & continue to run it (into the ground) and sadly it is all in the name of politics.

Manchester have always had a Labour council but with a different view point regarding business than our Socialist anti business clowns & we are now paying the price.

The way we (Wednesday) & it’s supporters have been treated is symptomatic of how they feel they are immune from any scrutiny or criticism and when we have the nerve to react to further draconian measures on top of already stifling dictats, they react like a 70s Communist state, sulking and briefing the press & media without any consultation to the club.

We have a leader stealing a 6 figure salary (40k more than the British Prime minister) & he hasn’t got the decency to even acknowledge what this club means to over half the population of this city.

He & his cronies including the Police are more concerned about placating the media for events that unfolded years ago.

I urge all Wednesday fans (whether they go or not) to not forget this episode & act accordingly when the time comes.

This. Cord wearing, save the whale types listening to Levellers albums criticising capitalism whilst jogging in their Nike’s and holidaying in Tenerife. Sheffield Council is full of them.

Stop being such a fanny, vulva.

All this doesn’t surprise me and I wish DC and the club well in their pursuit of a sensible resolution to this mess.

When an entire fan base is in absolute consensus against a decision made on the grounds of safety, you know someone / some people are playing a VERY dangerous game. If it really was a dangerous situation to have fans exit to LL I’m sure some of our fans would be backing the decision. But they are not. Not a single one.

Of all the things to threaten the club this is potentially one of the worst of recent years. Good luck DC.

This^

Labour run shambles akin to a 1970’s working man’s club committee. Little wonder all external investment goes elsewhere with these tree hugging communists in power.

Think you might want to reconsider that bit mate.  :image:

If anybody is considering civic action.  A couple of hundred people blocking J34 on a Saturday would cause significant economic damage,  I'm not advocating such action, merely pointing out the consequences.

Lib Dems and Labour governments will always do that..although the conservatives will always be blamed cos they are all southerners or summit like that

yes I believe that there has been an argument on here that did not really exist cos Mr RS has posted so poorly that I think everyone believed he was talking about the club, not SYP, I certainly did until he explained it.  Needed to be more clear.

"nobody told me there would be days like these!"

"We caused a problem"

"We've got blood on our hands"

And you read that as talking about the police?

So the post you are replying to stated that the Labour council of Sheffield has run the city into the ground but that Manchester's Labour council has done a good job of business development.

How can Labour and Lib Dem's ALWAYS do that? There are two totally conflicting examples of what Labour councils have done. Good job versus a bad job.

Tories are not always blamed for everything but if they are it is when they come to ridiculous conclusions like you have just done.

Not just on here but in general.

Watching the NHS being destroyed by the Bullingdon club does make me kind of angry yeh.

But you can maybe carry it on in the politics section....this is not the forum for your political campaign.
