Loan Watch Rides Again!

Recommended Posts

Another abreviated Loan Watch

Jack Stobbs is still injured (according to FlashScore) so misses Livingston at home to Ross Co

Liam Shaw plays no part in Chesterfield's visit to Torquay, I'm assuming that's down to the expiry of his one month loan

Connor Kirby, his one match ban now served, can't play because having survived their latest winding-up threat and received an EFL point deduction

Macclesfield have now fallen foul of SAG, so don't have a game

Matt Penney is either still on the sidelines and/or back home for Christmas - but his side did manage to play a game without him ...

21 December

St. Pauli  3-0  Arminia Bielefeld          (att: 29,546)

Despite ending their winless run last time out, Jos's side started this game occupying the relegation play-off spot

Whereas Julian Borner's old mates arrived in Hamburg with a 4pt lead at the top of the division

So there was only one possible outcome really

22nd December

Heidenheim  3-1  VfL Osnabruck            (att: 12,100)

A first defeat in nine games marked JvA's 15th start for VfL and wrecked their hopes of going into the winter break 4th in the table

That honour now goes to Heidenheim (p.16) who started the game 1pt above their visitors

The stats suggest an even game but VfL had to play out the last 10mins with ten men and then conceded the third in the last minute

Think it's safe to say Liam Shaw's loan spell at Chesterfield has now expired

In summary, he made five appearances during the month

Which comprised of four league (one cup) - three starts plus one (and one) as sub

In total  =  P 3  +1(1)     W 0   D 1   L 2  +1(1)

So how do you rate the success of a loanee when the team are going through such a rough patch?

He'll benefit from the experience, but after playing the first two games in their entirety, he was subbed off before an hour of the third

and the following two sub appearances amounted to about five minutes in total

So perhaps things could have worked out better

He also picked up one booking but thankfully, no injuries

Limited time in a hard school like the conference will stand  him good stead far more than playing in the dev league.

26th December

Macclesfield  1-1  Grimsby        (att:  1,991)

A second half penalty looked like giving Macc their first win since mid-October

Until Grimsby equalised with their first league goal since ... mid-October

The draw was Macc's fifth on the bounce which, together with their six-point deduction, leaves them third bottom

Connor Kirby watched it all unfold from the bench - as an unused sub

29th December

Forest Green  1-0  Macclesfield       (att:  2,155)

Connor Kirby was restored to the starting XI for this one

Which, after recent suspension, bench duty and Macc's current predicament, was his first game for a month

Match stats suggest Forest Green were good value for their win, even though they had to wait until the 75th minute for the goal

The three points strengthen their position near the top of the league and highlight Macc's problems at the bottom

I'll persist with Connor Kirby Watch for a while longer ...

1st January

Port Vale  2-2  Macclesfield              (att:  5,350)

Two goals in a minute overturned the home side's half-time advantage

But Vale found an equaliser five minutes later to spoil Macc's hopes of grabbing that much-needed win

Still, another hard-earned point gained

Connor's 24th appearance marked by yet another booking

oops correction - make that his 25th appearance

20 starts plus five as sub (all competitions)

Let's hope you can fill this thread out with some new ones in the next few weeks. .. .

That is my hope too

There are no updates filtering down from Scotland, that's for sure

But if Matt Penney's loan gets cut short ... and/or Joost van Aken's move to Germany becomes permanent ...?

I'm gonna start feeling like a stalker (again!)

4th January

Macclesfield  1-0  Cambridge          (att:  1,454)

Another full 90mins for Connor Kirby to add to his tally

And that vital first win in twelve for his side - an early goal deciding a tight affair

They remain third bottom of League 2 but now have a 5pt cushion on the two sides below them

They may also be facing a four point deduction for not playing their recent fixture with Crewe. As you rightly say. a vital win today and Connor must be rated to get the full ninety minutes.

There were rumours circulating the other week that a number of clubs were considering a move for Connor during this transfer window

Which suggests his performances for Macclesfield have caught the eye of gossip-mongers, if no-one else!

I haven't spotted any official confirmation or anything ...

But I'm guessing that Jack Stobbs' appearance as a 71st minute sub for our U23s yesterday means his loan spell at Livingston is now over

So, a quick summary then:

After a blistering start to his time up there - making his debut as a sub (Ross Co. away) and scoring a 'worldie' - things hardly got going for him

He made two further appearances from the bench and his only start (his last time out) was Hamilton (a) at the end of September

He'd also been an unused sub on four occasions during those early weeks before dropping off the radar

A return to the bench for two more games late-October/early-November wasn't the comeback he might've hoped for

There's no use speculating as to what went wrong, FlashScore listed him as being unavailable through injury so maybe that was the problem

... or plastic pitches, who knows?

Either way, the loan may have provided good experience for Jack but it can hardly be considered successful

Total 4 appearances (all in the SPL)

    P  1  +3     W    +2      D  0     L  1   +1      scored: 1

Give the lad credit he's been prepared to go on loan, but clearly he's not going to make it with us. I was surprised that he was able to get his present contract given his lack of progress over the previous years. Hope he can get himself a deal elsewhere.

Players like Stobbs is where modern football gets it massively wrong.

He’s had 5 years on good money but he’ll more than likely leave in the summer at 23 tumbling down the leagues on a fraction of that.

Doesn’t really set players like that up well for the real world of work.

How much do you think he was earning?
