Think the club's quite capable of ensuring their own demise.

Well done Chansiri , a potential 9 point deduction awaits us

Your doing a great job of raising Penney's profile to the Wednesday fan base

16th November

Macclesfield  0-0  Mansfield         (att:  2,055)

Really wanted Macc to win this one, big time

Really wanted Connor Kirby to play out of his skin too, put in a few crunching tackles, score a couple of goals ...

Never mind

The draw leaves both sides in mid-table, separated by goal difference

I dunno, another interminable international break - I'm bored

I was saving this for Friday but I'll throw it in early ...

Nah, never heard of 'em ...

No.5  VfL  Bochum  1848

Heard of the city though.  Bochum is 6th largest in Germany's densely populated western region noted chiefly for heavy industry

And that, along with its hilly terrain and proximity to at least one major river, might best explain why it is twinned with ... Sheffield! ... 'ray

Obviously has nothing to do with the local coal mines closing down and the subsequent decline in steel production and associated plant works etc

As for the club * their fortunes have dipped too.  From being a permanent fixture in the top flight, enduring yo-yo years for about a decade (the 90s)

To the past ten years and apparently becoming a fixture in 2.Bundesliga

They're currently 3rd bottom and play their home games in a half-filled stadium - although they last earned a good away point against Jos's St Pauli

Next up for them is JvA & co at home ...

* A lot of German sides include the year they were founded in their name

This lot proudly claim that 1848 makes them 'one of the oldest clubs in the world' - but it has nothing to do with football

In fact, VfL is an abbreviation which loosely translates into 'association for physical education'

Which seems fitting as earlier members were more into gymnastics

I mean, we could trace our origins back to The Wednesday Cricket Club (1820)

Where would that stand us in the world rankings?  Or doesn't cricket count?

They will better players for their loans.

Kirby should come back a stronger character for his time at Maccy, and next season will probably be their breakthrough season at Hillsboro.

The worrying thing is that we do not have a goal scorer in our youth ranks.

What about hir....... oh never mind. Lol.

And if we did, what then?

I'm loath to exhume the George Hirst scenario one more time, but it's the perfect example of where we are

With hindsight (that magical commodity) the best thing DC could've done was sell him when he had a chance, and make sure there were enough

add-on clauses to benefit SWFC should the player achieve any kind of potential

His mistake was to try and keep hold of him - which is what most of us wanted him to do

But the only way that was likely to happen was by agreeing to the demands of his agent (and dad) and tearing up whatever wage structure was in place at the time

Even then, he'd probably have to guarantee regular 1st team involvement (?) whether the player was ready or good enough or not

If we had another hot prospect coming through the same problems would surely apply

Except this time I'd imagine we'd be more willing to cash in

Think Shaw could be a top player, interesting to see how he does at Chesterfield

Could be a good move for him

Two steps higher up the food chain than Gainsborough and decent crowds too

Plus, anything Shez has to say to him will be worth listening to

Just hope he gets the minutes

22nd November

VfL Bochum  1-1  VfL Osnabruck           (att:  20,760)

Joost van Aken left out of the starting XI for the first time and watched the whole game from the bench

Meanwhile, Bochum got off to a flyer with a goal after just 2mins

Osnabruck then missed a penalty, but made up for that when they were awarded another in 1st half injury time

Second half and it was Bochum's turn to miss a penalty

Honours shared but the point was probably more valuable to the visitors

Erzgebirge Aue  3-1  St Pauli            (att:  14,000)

Matt Penney missed this one altogether, presumably still out through injury

We know all about the home side, don't we? (p.5)  The minnows of the division

The crowd figure is probably approximate, but it's not far off a full house

And no wonder, this comfortable-looking win moves them up to 3rd in the table, for now

Leaving Jos's side looking anxiously over their shoulders

23rd November

Celtic  4-0  Livingston        (att:  58,247)

Don't know which is the least surprising - Livingston getting thumped or Jack Stobbs' absence from their matchday squad

Well until there's something to report, either him getting games or returning to S6, I'm gonna leave 'em to it

Salford  0-0  Macclesfield         (att:  2,484)

No such problems with Connor Kirby though

Another 90mins under his belt and another useful away point that keeps his side comfortably mid-table

He also picked up another booking though, they'll start adding up soon

Harrogate  3-1  Chesterfield          (att:  1,710)

Liam Shaw was handed his debut and also given the full 90mins

He marked the occasion with a yellow card too, but that's probably as good as it got

Chezzy actually took the lead on 10mins, were level at half time and then ....

Had a peak on Chesterfield fans forum. Not much on Liam Shaw there, but one guy who posted said he was head and shoulders above other Chesterfield players (assume it was about how well he did, rather then how tall he is) and how it is shame that they have him only on one month deal.
