Form since Jos

I just like Bully's man management.  Comes out in praise of Reach and the 'unseen work', 'teams need players like him and we're lucky to have him' - clever and no doubt boosts Reach confidence at a point where he hasn't pulled up any trees or scored any wonder goals for a bit.

Jos was just bitter cos he looked like Roland Rat and Westy and Sammy have gorgeous locks.

Westy?

Worst in my time, Danny Wilson a close second. Both suffer the same faults, cannot manage the bigger players.

Can one of the old boys confirm if Eustace or Burtenshaw was worse than Jos?

Yes on both counts as hard as that is to fathom.

Burtenshaw was as bad as it gets, his sides were abject , yes he managed under difficult circumstances but as Len Ashurst proved after him it was possible to improve the team.

Eustace was a strange character, he begged for the job when Wilko left, and once he got it he seemed determined to pi$$ off all and sundry on a weekly basis.

I remember the star backpage before his first game as confirmed manager and he spouted that even though he hadn`t figured much Colin West would start the game because he was instrumental in bringing him to the club and as he put it " I,m the gaffer now".....................bust ups with Sterland and Varadi followed, and seemed to delight in picking David Hirst for the bench against all common sense.

Also remember his signing masterstroke........at a time when money was tight he spaffed £400,000 (a lot of money at that time) on Darren Wood who was absolute garbage.

Useless Eustace definitely was!

To be fair, Jos wasn't without virtue.

Yes, dropping Westwood goes down as right stupidity, but there was something nice about many of the kids being given a chance. In contrast, under Carlos we were often playing crocks who weren't interested, hardly giving the kids a look-in.

Still, bringing on Kirby to defend a 2-0 lead against WBA with eight minutes to go...

:tango:

On the flip side the kids need to be ready for the step up, some of them weren't.

Didn’t he also have a pop at the fans saying something along the lines of ‘I pick the team not the kop’ ? He seemed to completely lose the plot or was way out of his depth.

Given that we were sleepwalking into relegation when Jos was finally sacked, that form, of only four defeats since it’s quite remarkable. Even more so when you look at the upheaval of Bruce’s appointment and departure.

This ^

It's outstanding form in any terms but even more remarkable when you consider not just the Bruce saga but also we've faced embargoes, injuries and multiple other issues during that time. It's also worth noting it's Bullen's second spell as caretaker (third spell overall) within that form too. Who knows how long it will last but having Bullen in charge not only saves DC money and buys DC time but it also shows Bully can be trusted. The players trust him, they're playing for him and he's seemingly building from and progressing the work done by Bruce and his staff. The last thing we need is anymore upheaval, which restructuring for a new man might bring, hopefully Bully is the right man at the right time.

And the most mind boggling thing of all were the posters who backed him and said we were all living in the past.

Completely this! Still remember people on here backing him and sticking up for him right at the end, even after all the shocking decisions he made.

I actually don't think Jos was that bad a manager or coach just that Sheffield Wednesday in the English Championship was totally unsuitable for him.
Same way Steve Bruce would do crap in the German Second Division.

He's doing pretty bad at St Pauli, they were in the play offs when he took over and they dropped out in no time.

I remember the first Jos game (or maybe not the very first, but the first televised one) and thinking, well the football wasn't going to be easy on the eye but we'd been falling to pieces under Carlos, and he seemed to at least stop that, and we had a coupe of good spells under him. I'm at a loss to understand how bad it got at times.

That was surreal. People actually agreed with him that Westy was the third best keeper at the club.

:tango:

I don't remember anyone going that far! I backed the decision to drop him though (at least for a few games, not permanently), as he had cost us quite a few points with several silly mistakes in a short span of time a couple of seasons ago. He needed that kick up the backside and to know he wasn't the first name on the teamsheet to regain his form.

I'm not going to say Dawson should stay in goal for the next game at the weekend, but Westwood has already made one big mistake in one appearance this season, so hopefully he can move past that quickly and start showing that he is one of the best keepers in the league again.

These stats are impressive but they are inflated by the omission of the three promoted teams. The results of the relegated (from Premiership) teams are meaningless for obvious reasons.

As if we needed any more optimism. Here’s the form of the current Championship teams since Jos left us:-

1. Wednesday P26. W12. D10. L4. Pts48. (GF37. GA23)

2. Brentford     P26. W13. D6.  L7. Pts45

3. WBA.           P26. W13. D6. L7.   Pts45

4. Leeds.         P26. W13. D3. L10. Pts42

Followed by Hull, Bristol C, Derby, Boro, Swansea

Don’t see this as a stick to bash Jos. Better to look at as confirmation that our start to this season is not a blip.

Furthermore, in Harris, Murphy, Luongo and Odubajo, we have improved our starting Xl and the squad depth over the Summer. Our weaker players have either left or moved considerably down the pecking order.

Disclaimer - past performance should not be used as an indicator of future performance. Sheffield Wednesday fans should seek specialist psychiatric advice before investing expectation or hope.

Yet we still have some supporters saying we aren't good enough for a top 6 place, the stats suggest otherwise and that (as you point out), was before the exciting new talent has had a chance to have any real impact on the overall stats.

Excellent Work lol

I do worry about the reaction on here when we do lose one. Toys everywhere, prams scattered around the floor, cries for Bullen's head

You just know the 1st defeat, we will be the worst team in history.

I seem to recall it being stated at the time he was sacked that Eustace is the only permanent manager in the club's history who failed to register a home win in the league (although we did beat Torquay 5-1 in the FA Cup).
