Irwin Mitchell have probably the best public law team in the country. Challenging decisions made by government departments, the police, councils and other public bodies is their bread and butter.

The club could do worse than engage with them to assess if all this has been done fairly.

On in the face of it, imposing such major restrictions when most other grounds in the country have fans separated by a gangway and a few stewards is overkill in the extreme.

I always think it’s almost like the 90s were forgotten in the sense that after the disaster we were in the top division for 11 years regularly getting crowds of 35-40000 with the away end sold out and yet incidents of trouble were minimal and nobody’s safety was compromised... how on earth did we all survive that decade without SAG taking such close interest in our well being??? It’s a wonder anyone who went in the north or west stands came out intact! :duntmatter:

Or the club could just get on and make some remedial works, we've wasted 30 years time to get on with it..

Increasing the capacity by spending on a solution is effectively self financing

How does redeveloping the West Stand assist with this issue though.

Don’t forget SYP insisted on the derby match being moved to a Monday night. They also made all the arrangements on surrounding roads, coach parks etc. Nothing went wrong in the ground.

All on them.

The report isn’t the be all and end all. You can go to most Universities, pay money for a report or research to aid your argument. It’s a vendor lead paper.

Enough is enough. Time to take legal action against the SAG/SYP

No its time to improve the situation on the ground and stop the silly pointing of fingers the blame game will get us nowhere barring diverting attention away from the need to modernise the stadium

Since 1989 the H&SE have never said the Lep it self  was a H&S issue , until the SYP came in for some flak over the policing of  the derby,

The main concerns in 1989 was forcing supporters to use less turnstiles than that end of the ground could handle, and the numbers that each pen was allocated.

So after 30 years , two inquest , someone has found a problem with that end of the ground being used for league games, to me it's not a H&S issue but a public order matter and how it's policed.

Whats the old saying " never contradict a policeman or you'll end up falling down the cell steps"  well the club have been pushed down them steps.

You're absolutely spot on there. SYP fail to do their role/job and say to SAG - 'you'd be better just to close off areas in and around the ground even though it's never been a problem, until we made it one last February.'

It's quite astonishing really.

Provide an engineering solution to the exit and egres  increasing the potential bums on seats at the Leppings Lane thus increasing revenue to the club

When you 'modernise' do you mean to comply with statutory laws, or to improve the customer experience?

I just think if the issue is two sets of fans in close proximity on exit and not being keen on holding back fans then no engineering solution will be adequate for SAG

Build bridges across the river for away fans simple or just commission a good firm of architects they'll provide a solution.

The blame game gets us nowhere

I mean the club kmow the issues and should get it sorted asap

It's never been an issue until now - the point of the discussion is to assess whether there are any issues at all - in a legal sense. Businesses simply can't go around spending money on capital investment unless there is a very specific and real need for it - in this case, it seems very dubious to say the least.

So you honestly think we're being treated fairly?

You think there aren't many examples of home and away fans being separated by a line of stewards, yet ours have to be a whole stand apart.

You think there aren't many examples of home and away fans exiting the ground together in the same direction? Yet it's a massive problem for us?

Yeah sorry what was I thinking, SYP are totally right and we need to get our shiit together

It's quite astonishing really.

The H&SE never closed that end of the ground over safety issues, only the terracing stayed closed.

What gets me is the derby game at the lane had the same issues, yet no report was commissioned over  fans mixing at that end of the ground.

Didn't SYP release a statement saying they were commissioning a report on how to police all South Yorkshire grounds in the future.

So whats happened to the other reports at other clubs in this area..
